Page 1: Evaluation question 1: Style and font of titles

I aimed to place the titles in ‘free space’ on the screen. They were white in colour which has connotations with innocence (a characteristic linked with children who are the main characters of my film). The simplicity of the titles could be seen as mirroring the simplistic lifestyle in rural areas (the films setting). The titles also fade in and out which adds to the ‘dreamy’ aspect of my opening title sequence. For this reason I believe that the titles work well with our opening title sequence. The style of the titles, simply being superimposed upon the image, is similar to all but one of the opening title sequences I have looked at. Keeping the titles simplistic was an important decision we made as to keep the audience concentrating on and following the storyline.

Earlier in the project I decided to be somewhat creative when presenting the film’s title after being inspired by opening title sequences like ‘Napoleon Dynamite’. I tested several ideas before deciding on the poster. I hand-drew this logo and tea-stained the edges to create an ‘old’ look. This is almost like the films individual ‘logo’ which is common in many other films. The logo itself works well with our opening title sequence as it is a horse-shoe and has a drawing of a rural- landscape. This introduces the audience (even if they weren’t to have seen the earlier part of the title sequence) of the film’s setting and themes.
