AS Media-Preliminary task

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products?

Like Men’s health I have used a masthead and also have the date underneath

I have also used cover lines similarly to

men’s health

I have also used a puff in the same way

Men’s Health has.

I have also used a footer in the same way as the Men’s health magazine

I have similarly used a main image. With the

eye line in the top third of the page

There’s usually 3mm off ‘bleed’ between the edge of the page and the text on the

page my cover lines have gone against this

convention.

I have used a consistent colour theme of green and purple throughout my magazine. Colour themes is a regular

feature used in magazines, Men’s Health uses a colour scheme of

white, red and blue .

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products?

My magazine has used a contents page title

however differently to the other magazine my contents page doesn’t

have a date this doesn’t fit with magazine

conventions.

I also have a list of features in my magazine

I have also used images with captions to show what page

the feature is on

My magazine also has an editors note

which is another typical magazine

feature.

I have once again used a consistent colour scheme of green and purple

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When Creating my magazine cover and contents page there were two main programs I used Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Through using these programmes I have learnt many different techniques that I previously didn’t no.

I have learnt a lot about the different features that can be used on the Photoshop toolbar. Examples of some of the tools I have learnt to use include:

This icon is used to add text to Photoshop when creating my magazine I used this tool throughout my work.

This icon can be used to add various shapes to my work. I used this to create my puff for my front cover. I also used this icon to add other shapes to the magazine such as background for text boxes such as for my cover lines on the front cover.

This tool is used to move things around the page such as shapes. I used this in order to change the layout of the page by moving different things around on it.

Colours can be addedTo swatches so that Colours are saved.

I used this in order tocontinue to use the same

colours of green and purple Throughout my magazine

Different layers in my work include images, shapes and text. I can edit these layers by using the eye icon which can be used to hide layers, I can also select a layer or delete a certain layer.

I have also learnt a lot about the different features that can be used on the Indesign toolbar. Examples of some of the tools I have learnt to use include:

This icon is used to add text to Indesign when creating my magazine I used this tool continuously throughout the process.

This is the select tool used to select a text box or shape. I used this so that when selected I could edit an object or so that I could move objects around on the page in order to change the layout.

This tool can be used to add rectangular shapes to a piece of work. This was used when adding shapes to my contents page.

This is the zoom tool. I used this tool to zoom on a certain area of my magazine to take a closer look at it or edit something in that area.

Indesign automatically makes a link with a Photoshop file which is imported into it. I learnt how to update these links which meant that if I edited any of my work on Photoshop I could automatically update it on Indesign. This was a useful tool which I learnt to use as it saved me a lot of time when editing my magazine.

I also learnt how to export my finished magazine front cover and contents page as JPEG images. I clicked file and then export. I then saved the files as two separate JPEG images and now have my finished front cover and contents page.
