How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation Activity 5

Lucia Puricelli

I have made the title big and bold. I used Two colours from my colour scheme (red and black) so it would match with the rest of the front cover. Red is a primary colour and stands out from most others and it also compliments the black I used for the first and last letters of the title. I have included a banner across

the top which advertises a free poster inside the magazine. I did this since it is common in most other music magazines and because it may attract more attention.

My pictures is central and is the more dominant object on the front cover. I have done this since most people are attracted by the picture more than the title or text.

At the bottom of the page I have used a ‘plus’ section with informs the reader of any other bands featured in the magazine. This is very common in music magazines and is either usually presented as a list or in a box like I have done. I have used the same fonts as the titles since it would help brand the product and make it more recognisable.

I have included a competition on the front of my magazine to help attract more people since most people like taking part. It is also filled with colours from my colour scheme to help it match with the rest of the cover.

I have made the band’s name big and like an extra title so people can clearly see who is featured inside. It matches the colour scheme of the magazine and uses bold fonts with will attract my audience.

I have included small subtitles to allow the reader to see what else the magazine has inside. The don’t obstruct the main picture or any other text on the cover of the magazine so they only get noticed after the reader has seen the magazine.

I have used bold fonts that are suitable for the genre of music I have chosen. I have also tried to emphasize the titles by using bright colours that stand out from most others.

Similarities

-They both have big titles which stand out. They are both also covered by the picture and surrounding boxes/shapes.- They both use a big picture which is the main part of the magazine that both attracts and addresses the audience. - They both have a ‘plus’ banner at the bottom of the cover to inform the audience of any other bands that are in the magazine which may help attract the audience since the bands listed may be ones they can relate to.- Both include subtitles that are presented in a list that would inform the reader on what else the magazine has in its contents.- Both magazines addresses the reader buy using the same type of language, for example, ‘The creation starts here’ and ‘titans of punk’. - The colours used would attract my audience since they are colours usually seen on rock bands and on other rock magazines because they are dark and bold.- The name of the band is written in fonts that match the magazine and that stand out. They are both easy to read and are written at angles which adds more lines to the magazine and makes the reader eye go towards the picture.

Differences

-The colours are different shades. In my magazine I use red to attract my audience because it is the brightest colour in my colour scheme, on the professional magazine they use a bright pink to attract the audience. - The fonts of the titles are different. My magazine uses a bolder font and the professional magazine uses a scruffier font with a lot of cracks in which may match the genre slightly better than mine. - The subtitles on my magazine are written at an angle which creates lines on the magazine which may attract more attention than the professional magazine because theirs is only written in a list and is less interesting.

I have included a subscription box at the bottom of the contents page. This may attract my audience because a lot of people subscribe to magazines and it would mean that people would want to buy your magazine again.

I have included a regulars list to keep the readers informed on the main pages that are included in each issue of the magazine. It also breaks up the information on the contents page so there isn’t just one long list of pages.

I have used a features list so it is easier for the readers to find the pages that are featured on the front cover. It also makes it easier to read and this may make the audience of your magazine read the rest since it is easier for them to find what they want.

I have put page numbers at the bottom of the pictures I have used so people can easily find what page that band are on.

I have included quotes on the contents page because if people find them interesting they are more likely to read the rest of the article. The quote “We are the new face of rock ‘n’ roll” would be suitable for attracting my audience because it is the kind of language my audience would use.

I have used the same fonts and colours as the front cover so it gives the reader some familiarity. It would also help in branding the product.

The pictures may help attract and address my audience it’s something effortless to look at instead of reading a lot of text. Having some visual stimulus may be more interesting than having a lot of text which may be better in attracting the audience.

I have used the magazine title on the contents page since it would help brand my magazine and it is what most of my previous research does.

Similarities

- Both contents pages include a regulars list and a features list which breaks up the information on the page so it is easier to navigate the magazine.- They both include pictures which helps to add colour to the page. It also makes it more interesting for the reader to look at so may attract the audience more.- They both have page numbers at the bottom of each picture to show the reader what page the pictured band is on. This would be helpful and would make the magazine easier to navigate.- The features and regulars list is on the right side of the page and the pictures are on the left side. This may help to balance out the page and make it easier for the reader to look for certain pages.

Differences

-There is a lot more text on the professional contents page which may help to fill up the page so there isn’t any blank spaces but is could make the page look less interesting. My contents page doesn’t have as much text which gives me more room to have pictures and an subscription box.- My magazine includes a subscription box on the contents page whereas the professional magazine doesn’t. It may be located in another part of the magazine but it isn’t on the contents page. - The professional contents page doesn’t include the magazines name on it whereas mine does. This may help to brand the product and give the audience some thing they recognise.

I have used quotes to break up the text in my article so it doesn’t look like a long list of text.

I have placed pictures in my article because it gives the reader some visual stimulus while reading. This would make the page more interesting to look at.

I used a big picture on one side of the page so it balances out the writing on the other.

I have used the same fonts and colours as the front cover to keep the same colour scheme.

I have written the title of the article big and with the same fonts as the front colour. I have done this so these fonts will now be associated with my band. I have also written it at an angle so it adds diagonals and lines to the magazine and it also directs the readers eye towards the article.

I have put the competition on the double page spread because the competition is associated with the band and so the double page spread has different features to it.

Instead of starting the main article on page 15 I have used a box and have given an introduction to the main article. I have done this so one page can be completely about shapes and pictures and the other page can be the main article. Many of the magazines I have researches does this.

I have put a yellow stripe at the top and bottom on the page. I have done this to help brand my magazine and to give space to add page numbers. It also adds more colour to the page.

I have put the page number and the title of the magazine at the top of the double page spread. I have done this because it helps to brand my product.

Similarities

-They both have a big picture on one side of the double page spread and the main text on the other. - They both have introductions to the article under the title. This would be useful because its purpose is to make the reader want to carry on reading the article.- They both have set colour schemes which use colours that stand out and go together well.- The both include a reference to the title of the magazine next to the page number. This would help brand the product.- The language used on each page is similar and would attract the same type of audience.

Differences

-The text on the professional magazine is placed in a smaller space and looks more squished than mine. For my text I arranged it in columns and have inserted quotes and pictures to break up the text and too keep the reader interested. - I have included a competition on my double page spread to have something different on it, rather than just having the article. The professional magazine does not include a competition.- The title of the article is bigger on mine than on the professional magazine, this would make it clear to the reader where the article starts. - There is only one picture on the professional magazine and I have included 3 pictures and 2 highlighted quotes.
