Project Overview


Euclid Creek Tunnel: By the Numbers

• Tunnel

– 24’ diameter

– 9,500/17,750’

– 60,100,000 gallons

• ~30 near surface structures

– 11 complete

– 12under construction

• Shafts: 5 total

– 24’ to 60’ diameter

– 185-225’ deep

• 2,465 linear feet of open cut pipe placed

• 2,110 linear feet of microtunnel complete

– 240 more to go


Shaft #1: Construction Staging Site

• “Mackenzie” tunneled and lined 9,450’

• Operating 24/7 with regularly-scheduled maintenance periods

• Lake Erie tunneling completed


Project Overview


Shaft #2: Easterly WWTP

• Shaft 2: 95 feet excavated

– Blasting last 100 feet; will begin this year

• Structure 2-2: installing final lining

• Structure 2-8: installing support of excavation


• East 156th Street

– West side sidewalk still closed

– Currently reduced to single lane for dewatering well installation; flaggers are present

– Commenced soft ground excavation

Shaft #3: Beulah Park


• Shaft 3 area

– Excavation began 4/23/13



• Structure Monitoring

– Letters distributed April 10, 2013

• DMP installed April 22, 2013



Site #4: Triangle Park

• Excavation work is complete at this site

• Currently installing baffle drop structures

• Fencing will remain throughout 2014

• Completed structure in Nottingham


Site #4: Lakeshore Blvd. Relief Sewer

• 66” trenchless sewer pipe, microtunneledfrom Euclid Creek Pump Station to Shaft 4


Site #5: Nottingham & St. Clair

• Excavation complete of Shaft 5:225 feet excavated

• Commenced excavation of Structure 5-4

• 500 cy concrete pour April 8th
