2. KEY FINDINGS
From 2007 to 2014, EU spirituous beverage production showed mixed dynamics,
ultimately rising from 1,836 million liters in 2007 to 1,875 million liters in 2014. It
expanded with a CAGR of +0.3% over the period under review. In value terms, EU
spirituous beverage production reached 15,281 million EUR in 2014, growing by +2.6%
annually.
The countries with the largest production of spirits, liqueurs and similar beverages in
absolute volumes were Spain (136 million liters) and Italy (113 million liters). However,
between 2007 and 2014, Spain and Italy showed negative dynamics, with -2.2% per
year and -2.5% per year decrease, respectively.
Spain dominated in EU spirituous beverage production and ranked fourth in trade. In
2014, it exported the lion’s share of its total liqueur beverage output. Of this amount,
14% was supplied to France, where Spanish liqueurs held a 14% share of total France’s
imports.
