INTO THE WOODS
Le sigh, Untitled 11:11 has us yearning for a Parisian cafe and a glass of wine with its winter-thawing “Into the Woods” collec-tion. And is it any wonder? Designers David Peck and Laurel Anderson, who first met at Parsons Paris School of Art and Design, leave no doubt that La Ville-Lumière informs their work.
Brimming with the romantic elegance of Le Champs-Élysées, the duo’s collection mirrors the fluid palette of Mother Nature herself.
THROUGH THE TREESPeck and Anderson make their clothes in New York City using ethical labor and consciously sourced materials, including fair-trade, sustainable and American-made products, whenever possible.
Untitled 11:11’s lines have the effortless beauty of a flower in bloom: structured, yet feminine.
Untitled 11:11’s lines have the effortless beauty of a flower in bloom, with color playing a key and sometimes unexpected role in spicing up the designs. The pieces are a structured yet feminine ode to the city where the designers cut their teeth, striking the perfect balance between a Parisian thoroughfare and a springtime glade.-4-
Eco-Footwear Goes Mainstream: Launch of Naya Shoes
Call a bandwagon a bandwagon if you must, but Naya isn’t just a fresh-off-the-presses line of eco-friendly wedges, heels, and flats. It’s also a ringing endorsement that the sustainability movement is doing something right. The first company-owned brand launched by the billion-dollar Brown Shoe Co. in 10 years, Naya joins established sibling brands like Dr. Scholls, Buster Brown, and Via Spiga, as well as the Famous Footwear chain of stores.
STEPPING OUTComprising vegetable-tanned leathers (vegans, avert your eyes!), bamboo heels, organic fabrics, cork footbeds, and biodegradable latex-foam cushioning, Naya’s inaugural collection of 11 styles are expected to retail from $110 to $130—definitely more spendy than your usual megabox fare and just marginally cheaper than leather-clad kicks from ethical footwear purveyors like Terra Plana and El Naturalista. (Naya’s shoes are made in China under unspecified labor conditions.)
While the jury is still out on whether mass-market eco-fashion brands do more harm than good, there’s something to be said about lower-impact designs that could raise public consciousness, even if it’s just a smidge. Our provisional verdict? We won’t knock ‘em until we try ‘em.
Naya will be available online at Zappos, Piperlime, and Planet Shoes, along with brick-and-mortar stores such as Dillard’s and Nordstrom.

C-PAS Menswear LineAs far as career segues go, shifting gears from world champion skateboarder to eco-menswear designer might not be as huge a leap as you might think, particularly if you’re Pierre Andre Senizergues. After
all, the French athlete-turned-entrepreneur has donned many hats along the way, founding several brands of skateboard shoes and a collection of modern furniture
fashioned from reclaimed decks.
BOARD TO BOARDROOMWhen Senizergues realized that traditional formalwear would not jibe with him nor his fellow
iconoclasts, he roped in designer and close pal Pierluigi Pucci to launch Collection Pierre Andre enizergues—C-PAS, for short. Its mission: To “engage the modern man’s street style with a passion to the
environment,” according to the company.
C-PAS’s mission is to “engage the modern man’s street style with a passion to the environment.”
For Spring/Summer 2010, C-PAS offers a 44-piece lineup of casual and custom-tailored clothing and accessories in a pared-down palette of army greens, crisp whites, and heather grays. But don’t confuse “neutral”
with “boring.” The deftly constructed garments come in an unexpected array of recycled materials, including fabrics derived from nylon parachutes, cassette tapes, and mosquito nets.

Titania Inglis
If you’ve been searching for the perfect Marilyn Monroe-sque
ensemble (circa Some Like It Hot) for the imminent heat wave, we’d like to introduce you to Titania Inglis’s foxy little eco-jumper. Its sweetheart lines and organic
fabrics, tailored to a Tin New York City’s Garment District, have us longing
for the sun. Inglis’s designs are just right for the modern lass. Her short shorts are expertly seamed to streamline your tush (in case you need to bend over a picnic basket for a bottle of lemonade), while her sweet knee-length pants hit your hip in the most
flattering way.
To create eye-catching streaks, Inglis uses the sun to heat fabric and corrode metal onto the fibers.
Besides using sustainable textiles like organic linen and Japanese organic cotton, the burgeoning designer also applies vegetable dyes to her pieces. Another method she uses to create eye-catching streaks: Rust dyeing. Inglis spent the past summer on the roof of her Brooklyn apartment building, where she harnessed the sun’s rays
to heat fabric and corrode metal onto the fibers.
Although her collection will make you feel like a ’50s movie star, they’re more than just eye candy. Inglis designs all her clothes for practical use. So go play
some frisbee—just don’t forget your heels.

The premise behind the freshly minted AliveShoes label is less of a straight shot than most. After
the sneakers are cobbled together, they're delivered in bulk to an artist somewhere on the globe, where they're mobilized as part of a large-scale installation. Once the public
sculpture is complete and allowed to linger for a time, the shoes are separated once more for
distribution to the footwear-wearing community at large.
AliveShoeS Project
SNEAKER ATTACKAliveShoes are more than your everyday ethically produced
sneakers. Part organic-cotton footwear, part grist for creative calisthenics, each AliveShoe begins life as an
element in a one-of-a-kind art installation.
Once complete, the temporary sculptures come tumbling down and with them, a bevy of now-orphaned shoes that are ripe for distribution to the general populace at a price
you determine. (Profits are donated to charity, as well as piped back into the project to support the
creation of new artwork.)
“By being able to purchase the AliveShoes that make up each art installation,” says Luca Botticelli, the label’s
founder, “people are able to actively participate in this project and help to bring art to life.”
