The goal of this professional development is to encourage and assist all those involved with pathology allied health training to better understand on-line tools and learning objects available to enhance education of our trainees.
Objectives:Upon completion of this presentation, those in attendance will be able to complete the following:• List the major components of the Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine Policy on UCDHS student computer/intranet usage
• Define a learning object and provide an example• Describe at least three tools available to incorporate technology into
the lecture room.

Basic Internet Safety Involves: At work:
• Review UCDHS Internet Policy and Procedure
• Signed IT Contract (includes password security)
• Systems monitored by IT
• Phishing scams follow policy: delete email immediately and notify IT department via email

• Anti-virus/computer security software (installed at all times)
• Avoid putting personal information on social sites
• Be aware of phishing scams

COMMON SENSE• The best protection is to be aware and engaged whenever
utilizing the internet
• Remind yourself that any site visited at work, on a work computer, is monitored

Keeping Your Personal Information Private
Would you put on a billboard in the middle of town the things you said last night on Facebook, Twitter, or IM?

Common Sense Rules and email:
• Don’t respond to e-mail from senders you don’t know.
• Businesses like credit cards, e-bay, amazon and others DON’T use e-mail to do account information and other personal transactions.
• Never use links, download materials, and start files from an e-mail you don’t know or were not expecting.
• UCDHS IT department never contacts users via email to initiate password or encryption bypass processes
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Policy on UCDHS student intranet usage.
• All trainees must clear Volunteer Services• Background check must be complete prior to initiating LIS access paperwork
• All trainees must read policy 895.A Student use of computers, LIS, and InternetComputer attestation sheet is emailed directly to program director upon completion
• LIS Confidentiality is signed and forwarded to the IT department
• Proper Use of Internet, Student contract, is signed and forwarded to the IT department
• If students are unable to log in they must contact the IT department
• Any training personnel must never share passwords or log into a computer for student use
Our students are engaged and perform well as we continue to
focus on confidence, responsibility, and professional integrity.
We can further encourage and support them to reach their
greatest academic potential through technology curriculum
enrichment.
