Jewish New Year’s Day is usually in September or October of our calendar. It is the first of the High Holy Days which occur in the fall. It is described in the Torah (Bible) as תרועה יום(Yom Teruah, a day of sounding [the Shofar]). Rosh Hashanah customs include sounding the shofar (ram’s horn) and eating symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey.
