Erosion: the movement or transport of weathered rock and soil.

Deposition: the laying down or depositing of weathered rock and soil.

Mass movement: the movement of rock or soil downhill.◦Mass movement is caused by gravity.

4 Types of Mass Movement1. Landslide: mass of rock or soil moving downhill fast.◦Usually dry◦Talus: the debris at the base of a slope.

2. Mudflow: the movement of rock or soil saturated with water moving downhill quickly.◦Can be as much as 60% water.

3. Slump: mass of rock or soil slips down a slope.◦Material moves in one large mass

4. Creep: mass of rock or soil moving downhill very slowly.◦You can’t see creep happen, only evidence of it.
