Erie Day School’s Summer Camps and Educational Programs

for children provide enrichment for students who wish to

express their creativity, learn a new skill or participate in an

athletic experience with new and old friends.

Every session is held on campus at Erie Day School.

Campers can register for the Erie Day School Summer Educational Programs and/or Summer

Camp morning and/or afternoon sessions. Please refer to specific descriptions further in the

brochure for specific dates and times.

All students attending two sequential Camps or the day-long Summer Educational Program

will need to provide a brown bag lunch (supervision will be provided).

Each Summer Educational Program tuition is due in advance and will be required in monthly

installments by May 31, June 16 and July 14.

Each weekly Camp tuition is required for all participants by:

May 31st for June Camps

June 16th for July Camps

July 14th for August Camps

Parents/guardians are to pick-up Summer Camp participants at the time each session ends,

unless the camper is staying for two sessions. If participating in two sessions, parents/

guardians will pick up their child at the end of the second Camp unless arrangements for the

Extended Day Program have been made.

Summer Educational Program Overview & Schedule The Lower School Summer Educational Program at Erie Day School will accept students who will

be entering grade levels Kindergarten through Grade 5 for the 2017-18 school year. Academic in-

struction in reading, writing, math, science and social studies will be given; social and communi-

cation skills offered; and hands-on educational field trips will be provided. Please contact

Mr. Brandon Goetz, if you have further questions about the Erie Day School Summer Educational

Program. Our educational team is looking forward to working with each of you and your chil-

dren! Full and half-day options are offered.

Early Childhood Camp for Preschool, PreK and Kindergarten The Preschool, PreK and Kindergarten Summer Educational Program at Erie Day School will ac-

cept learners ages 3-6. Social, cognitive and physical development will be emphasized. Social eti-

quette, developmental appropriate learning activities and large and fine motor skills development

will receive attention in both an indoor and outdoor setting. Our campus is sure to stimulate our

youngest learners each day as well!

Toddler Camp (Full and Half Day Options) The Toddler Summer Educational Program at Erie Day School will accept learners ages 2, full or

half–day. Social, cognitive and physical development will be emphasized. Social etiquette, devel-

opmental appropriate learning activities and large and fine motor skills development will receive

attention in both an indoor and outdoor setting. Our campus is sure to stimulate our youngest

learners each day as well! Full and half-day options are offered.

Extended Day Program

The EDS Extended Day Program provides a convenient option for parents whose schedules do not

permit after supervision of their children and will be available from 3:45—6:45 p.m., Monday

through Friday as indicated on the monthly calendar schedules (see back 4 pages of the brochure).

Attendance is taken daily and parents are sent an invoice of fees monthly. The fee is $10.00 per

hour per child. Late pick -ups will be charged an additional $30.00 for every 15 minutes (or increment)

late. There is also a 4% surcharge for credit card payment.

Program Instructors

Kindergarten—Grade 5 Summer Educational Program:

Mr. Brandon Goetz, Lead Teacher

Mr. Brandon Goetz is very honored to be working as a camp counselor this summer at Erie Day

School! Brandon graduated from Edinboro University in December with a dual degree in Early

Childhood and Special Education. During his free time, he likes to participate in and watch many

sports including baseball, basketball and football. He is from Cleveland, Ohio. In his free time,

he also tutors students in many different subject areas. Mr. Goetz is very excited to work with the

students at Erie Day School by promoting a positive learning environment and having a fantastic

summer, as well. He is looking forward to showing what he has learned in the classroom by creat-

ing lessons that are fun and interactive for all. If you have any questions, feel free to contact

Preschool, PreK and Kindergarten Summer Educational Program:

Ms. Erica Bowser, Lead Teacher

Ms. Erica Bowser is currently completing her junior year at Mercyhurst University, majoring in

Early Childhood Education/Special Education. She loves working with children and can’t wait to

fulfill her life-long dream of becoming a teacher.

Toddler Camp

Miss JoAnn Marsh has been the Toddler teacher at Erie Day School for six years. With Montessori

certifications and over 20 years of experience teaching young learners, Miss JoAnn is looking for-

ward to another summer of fun among the 2 year olds!

Around the World Let’s see the world! Join Mrs. Tilves as we visit and

learn about different cultures through reading, art,

crafts, music, food and so much more! Be ready to

move, laugh, and learn! Campers will meet at 12:00

p.m. in Mrs. Tilves’s classroom. Grades 1-5.

All Mixed Up Join Miss Lyons for outdoor educational experienc-

es. Students, Kindergarten through Grade 4 will

enjoy educational games and activities and practice

yoga postures among friends.

Kindergarten—Grade 4.

Baking Boot Camp: Cookie! Children will be exploring the world of cookies

with Mrs. Kresge! We will be learning the basic de-

licious chocolate chip cookie recipe as well as creat-

ing sweet cookies for all types of cookie lovers!

Chefs will take Whoopie Pies and Brownies to the

next level! Students will also learn measurements

and equivalents, as well as basic techniques like

folding and rolling during this week.

Grades 3—8. Supply cost is additional and will be deter-

mined once all campers have registered.

Books to Cooks! Chefs will be making connections between the

world of cooking and the world of print with Mrs.

Kresge! They will relate cooking concepts and reci-

pes with themes and characters drawn from select-

ed children’s books. Picture reading a selection

from “Paddington Bear” followed by a scone mak-

ing session. Or “The Gingerbread Man,” paired

baking and decorating giant gingerbread men!

Grades 3—8. Supply cost is additional and will be deter-

mined once all campers have registered.

Crafty Kids I & II Mrs. Straker (Miss Shirani) is looking forward to

another summer getting crafty with students.

Grades 1—5.

Hawaiian Luau Ukulele Camp Mrs. Lachowski is hosting this camp that will include

making our own performing grass skirts and a bit of

dancing plus an insight to the culture and history of

the Hawaiian Islands. The second part of camp is

learning how the ukulele is made and learning to play

songs. Grades 3—8.

MakerSpace Do you like creating something out of nothing and

exploring your own interests? This camp with Mrs.

Gates is for you! This is a place for making, collabo-

rating, learning and sharing. Here are just some of the

things you can do in MakerSpace: engineering; cod-

ing; electronics /Arduino; robot building / robotics;

learn circuits and electricity; sewing; wood working;

take-a-part sessions; and inventing. Grades 4-8.

Marketing Mania Campers will learn how to plan and market a compa-

ny with Mrs. Kresge. Included will be designing a

logo, writing and editing stories while they develop a

newsletter, complete a press release, special event,

and other marketing tactics. Grades 3—8.

Painting and Mixed Media Camp hosted by Ms. Emmett and will explore paint-

ing and mixed media art. Grades 2—8.

Reading is FUNdamental: Grades K-1

Reading is FUNdamental: Grades 2-3 (Minimum 6 students/Maximum 10 students for each

camp) Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from

learning, especially reading. Studies have shown that

students who read (and practice reading skills) over

the summer months do better in school in the fall.

Children who continue to read actually gain skills.

Efforts should be made during the summer to help

children sustain reading skills, practice reading, and

read for enjoyment. Why do summer reading? Be-

cause it increases: reading level; visualization skills;

language skills; thinking skills; vocabulary. This

camp hosted by Mrs. Sherwood will offer a compre-

hensive review of reading skills in a fun, engaging

and safe environment.

Camp I—Kindergarten—Grade 1.

Camp II —Grades 2—3.

Sculpture and Paper Mache Camp hosted by Ms. Emmett and will explore sculp-

ture and paper mache. Grades 2—8.

Singapore Math Each day will bring a new model drawing

problem. Model drawing is a powerful problem

solving tool that will open new pathways for your

child to understand the steps to reaching a solution in

math word problems. Also explore the math that

is involved with the many Singapore math strategies,

including number sense, patterns, fractions, sym-

metry, percentages, and basic math facts. Ms. Gian-

nelli is the facilitator and is looking forward to work-

ing with your child. Grades 1 - 6.

Singing the Great American

Musical Camp Students will get an look at the musical for the com-

ing year and the overall history of the American mu-

sical. Mrs. Lachowski and her campers will also work

on singing songs, technics for using the microphones,

reading scripts and acting. The last day we will give a

performance on stage. Grades 3—8.

Sloppy Science Do you enjoy science? Do you like getting

messy? Do you think learning should be FUN? If you

answered “YES” join Mrs. Tilves for a week of Sloppy

Science. Each day we will explore science through

demonstrations, experiments, and inquiry. Campers

will meet in the middle school science room.

Grades 1-5. Supply cost is additional and will be deter-

mined once all campers have registered.

Snack Attack This week students will push the limits on the

snack concept and prepare a variety of whole-

some, delicious, and unique nibbles. This is not

your mother’s PB&J! Chefs will prepare a variety

of bite-sized munchies like chicken salad cups,

homemade granola bars, veggie nachos, roasted

red pepper hummus with homemade pita chips,

and more under the guidance of Mrs. Kresge.

Grades 3—8. Supply cost is additional and will be

determined once all campers have registered.

Soccer Skills Summer Soccer Camp with Coach Rob will help

each camper improve their skills with high energy

sessions. Campers will learn field play, condi-

tioning, teamwork, sportsmanship and training

habits to build player confidence.

Grades 1-8.

SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation

for Kids) Does your child like to run, jump, and play? If

so, then this is the summer camp for him/her!

SPARK, hosted by Mrs. Gallo, is a nationally recog-

nized program aimed to counter heart disease and

childhood obesity. The SPARK program emphasiz-

es health-related fitness through cooperative games

and activities that are fun and developmentally ap-

propriate for all ages. The camp will be run by

EDS’s own Amy Gallo, a certified health and physi-

cal education teacher and a trained SPARK instruc-

tor. So, tie up those laces kids and get ready to

move! Grade 1-8.

Summer Skills This camp with Ms. Giannelli will provide your

child an opportunity to brush-up on basic math

skills, writing and reading skills and geography

basics. Students will discover and reinforce con-

cepts through games, art, music, cooperative

learning, literature and problem solving. Moti-

vating activities to enhance and combine your

child’s learning and physical activity.
