About ORACLE TEAM USA
Winning the America’s Cup requires more than just speed on the water. It demands raw sailing talent, supreme athleticism, creative design, boundary-breaking technology, superb craftsmanship and total commitment.
ORACLE TEAM USA won the 33rd America’s Cup in February 2010 when team principal Larry Ellison succeeded in his goal of bringing the America’s Cup back to the United States.
In 2013, the team staged an historic comeback, recovering from an 8-1 deficit, and winning the final eight races to successfully defend the America’s Cup 9-8.
ORACLE TEAM USA has relocated to Bermuda and is now preparing for a ‘three-peat’, a third consecutive America’s Cup victory.
Led on the water by skipper Jimmy Spithill and sailing team manager Tom Slingsby, the team has assembled a stellar sailing team, support crew and design team, all working together with one purpose - to win the America’s Cup.
About ORACLE TEAM USA
When ORACLE TEAM USA won the 33rd America’s Cup in February 2010, not only did team owner Larry Ellison succeed in his goal of bringing the America’s Cup “home” to San Francisco, California, but his team became the Defender of the 34th America’s Cup.
In preparation for the defense, CEO Russell Coutts and skipper James Spithill, assembled a team comprised of the best international sailing, design, build and support talent. They knew the fight would be hard. They didn’t know the half of it.
The America’s Cup Match in September 2013 was the closest in the long history of the America’s Cup. ORACLE TEAM USA, down 1-8 to an impressive Team New Zealand, mounted one of the all-time greatest comebacks in sport, winning 8 consecutive races to retain the Cup, including a come-from-behind victory in the final, winner take all, race.
Following the second come from behind dramatic win in 2013, the team has again evolved as it looks to make good on a 'three-peat'.
Grant Simmer is the General Manager and Chief Operating Ocer while Jimmy Spithill returns as skipper / helmsman and Tom Slingsby as sailing team manager. The team has assembled a stellar sailing team, support crew and design team, all working together with one purpose – to win the America’s Cup.
Team Highlights
• ORACLE TEAM USA wins the 34th America’s Cup Match 9-8. The team won 8 consecutive races after initially falling behind Emirates Team New Zealand by an 8-1 score.

• On February 14, 2010, ORACLE TEAM USA won the 33rd America’s Cup with a 2-0 triumph over Swiss defender Alinghi.
• The yacht the team sailed to win the 33rd America’s Cup, USA 17, was the fastest boat in the history of the event (since overtaken by the AC72s).
• The 90-foot by 90-foot trimaran was powered by a 223-foot tall wingsail, the largest wing ever built.
• In the victory, skipper James Spithill (AUS) became the youngest skipper to ever win the America’s Cup. Born June 28, 1979; he was 30 years old at the time of victory.
• ORACLE TEAM USA was founded on Aug. 11, 2000, by Larry Ellison.
