those differences can contribute to a more richer, more creative and working

• It also mean that we must respect people values, preferences and wishes

• Diversity is about respecting the individual

RESPECTING THE INDIVIDUAL

• Race

• Culture

• Gender

• Religion

• Disability

• Age

• Marriage status

• Sexual orientation

• Family structure

• this also includes respecting their differences

Images of equality

INCLUSION

• Inclusion is ensuring the person is the centre of their lives, making sure that they are include in everything that is about them such as

o Personal support

o Care

o Discussion

o activities (adjusting them if needed to include them)

DISCRIMINATION

• Discrimination can be when negative predjuices happen against them

• Unfairly treated

• Excluded

• Race

• Background

• Direct

• indirect

• An example of direct discrimination can be when someone is refused a job because they are in a wheelchair

• Indirect would be when told you can have the job but the work must be done on the first floor as the lift is not working

• To reduce the likelihood of this occurring again it is important to see beyond the wheelchair and keep an open mind and not assume just because a person is in a wheelchair that they cant do the job just as good as a person who is not in a wheelchair

IF YOU EXPERIENCE DISCRIMINATION

• Don’t put up with it

• Talk to someone – parent, friend, mentor, supervisor, assessor, line manager

• Don’t retaliate. Report it and sort it!
