This visa allows you to own and manage a business, conduct business and investment activity, or undertake an entrepreneurial activity in Australia. It is an alternative pathway for sophisticated business individuals who cannot meet the criteria of a normal Permanent Residency (PR) application but have significant funds to invest in Australia.

These visas are designed for individuals with history of a successful business career and eligible investment activity, who have a genuine commitment to live in Australia.

There are 4 separate provisional visa streams under the BIIP program that relate specifically to Innovation and/or Investment (Investor Stream, Significant Investor Stream, Premium Investor Stream and Entrepreneur Stream).

Scope to apply for permanent residency once eligibility conditions are met.

Allows the candidate commercial freedom to conduct business in Australia.

Business Innovation & Investment Visa StreamsThe Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) comprises 5 different streams.

Business Innovation streamThis provisional visa is for people with business skills. It lets you operate a new or existing business in Australia.• You must operate a new or existing business in Australia.• You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.

Investor streamThis provisional visa requires you to invest at least AUD1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory and maintain business or investment activity in Australia.• You must invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory.• You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.

Significant Investor streamThis provisional visa is for people who invest at least AUD5 million in complying investments and maintain investment activity in Australia.• You must invest at least AUD5 million in complying significant investments in Australia.• You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or Austrade.

Premium Investor streamThis provisional visa is for people who are nominated by Austrade and who invest at least AUD15 million incomplying premium investments and/or philanthropic contributions.• You must invest AUD15 million in complying premium investments and/or philanthropic contributions that

meet certain requirements.• You must be nominated by Austrade.

Entrepreneur streamThis provisional visa lets you carry out entrepreneurial activity in Australia that relates to an innovative idea.• You must have a funding agreement of at least AUD $200,000 from an approved entity.• You must first be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
