It’s basically a time- line that follows many different characters in different periods of time affecting theirs and others’ lives in the past, present and future. The film is an adaptation of the book Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.Tom Tykwer, Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski wrote the screenplay while simultaneously producing and directing it. The film features an ensemble of actors including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving and Susan Sarandon. Each actor portrays different characters throughout the time-line which involves six stories. Characters’ actions affect elements from each story which connects to another life in another period in time. The film starts with an old man (Hanks), sitting by a campfire, starting to tell a story. From there, all of the other stories start being introduced. The stories take place in the early nineteenth and twentieth centuries, present day, futuristic twenty-first century and a more distant future. As stories unfold, new characters are introduced, connecting with another story. The main character for each story narrates their journey. All of the stories tie together in a distinctive way and complete each other. The acting in this film is tremendous. All actors had the ability to perform very well in the various roles. They took on the difficult task of playing totally different characters and changing a lot of attributes to fit their part. All of the actors in lead and supporting roles deserve recognition for their creative and original performances. This film is quite complex because of the overlapping stories. The stories jump back and forth to each other and it gets a little confusing. It’s a little difficult to follow at first but as the movie progresses it becomes much easier to understand. T h e unique sets and worlds shown throughout the movie are outstanding and really help the film’s numerous story- lines. Despite the move being a little hard to follow, Cloud Atlas is full of adventure and fantasy and it’s extremely entertaining. It has so many great qualities and it’s a great example of originality. Nothing like this has ever been done before and adapting the book to a film was a genius thing to do. It’s such a beautiful and powerful film that people will want to watch again. Cloud Atlas receives four stars because although it may be a little confusing at first, it pulls the audience in for almost three hours and keeps them entertained. It may leave unanswered questions and make the audience contemplate the film’s design, but it is one of the most influential films in years. From delicious chicken sandwiches to fresh lemonade and sweet tea, Chick-fil-A has finally made it to the metro, and it seems to be the buzz everyone is talking about. Chick-fil-A built up anticipation for their local openings for over a year. Cows pulling crazy antics and saying “Eat MOR CHIKN” have graced many local television stations’ commercials with their presence. As of April, Chick-fil-A had 1,614 restaurants in 39 states. Nebraska has since been added to this list by the addition of two new locations, one in Papillion and one in Bellevue. Chick-fil-A is very fast at getting customer’s food out and having it done right. During lunch and dinner times, the cars have at times been at least 20 cars deep in the drive thru. Employees went out in the street to take orders and collect cash before customers even got to the menu screen. Inside the restaurant, even with the lines going from one door to the other and snaking around the restaurant, customers still have their food within a matter of five to ten minutes after walking in the door. The employees speak in a southern style, which most people in the metro are not used to. For example, the employees say “May I refresh your beverage?” instead of “Would you like a refill?” They also say “My pleasure” after a customer says “Thank you” instead of “You’re welcome.” They make everyone feel at home. As soon as customers walk through the doors or drive up to the drive thru, the employees are courteous and make customers feel valuable. Cloud Atlas is an independent science fiction, dramatic fantasy film. It’s basically a time-line that follows many different characters in different periods of time affecting theirs and others’ lives in the past, present and future.
