Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 , in Mvezo ( South Africa). Belonged to the Xhosa ethnic group. He had a happy childhood.

He attended the high school and high school, and finally entered the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg ) , where he

graduated in 1942 as a lawyer

In 1943 he founded the Youth League and organized large protests against

racial segregation known as apartheid .

The following year she was captured and sentenced to life imprisonment . There

would 27 years of his life in appalling conditions.

Even while in jail , their struggle did not cease. His name is increasingly being heard more and the fight

against apartheid was constant. It came to be

known as the most significant black leader in South Africa.

There he wrote the poem invictus.

In 1990 President Frederik de Klerk

freed Nelson Mandela , who was already 71,

and together they negotiated

and repealed the ' apartheid ' a

year later. So in 1993 they were awarded both

the Nobel Peace Prize .

In 1994 parliament appointed South African President Mandela . He worked during his tenure to establish democracy in a country where violence , discrimination and injustice dominated for many years. He ruled until 1999 and then decided to retire from political life .

Nelson died the day December 5, 2013 in Johannesburg, with 95 years

Mandela died as he lived: fighting.
