Enlightenment/Scientific Revolution Biography

This project will focus on the scientists, great thinkers, and/or philosophers of the Enlightenment/Scientific

Revolution. You will create a presentation showing a significant person’s main ideas and beliefs. Your presentation

will include biographical elements of the person, their contribution to the Scientific Revolution, or their philosophical

ideas and their beliefs in government (Enlightenment thinkers only). You will also create a symbol that represents

your person’s ideas whether it is related to the Scientific Revolution or the Enlightenment. This should be a visual

representation of their ideas. It may be a simple icon-type symbol or a collage of different images. Begin your

research in your textbook. Most of these figures can be found between pp.511-525. You may also use the index as a

guide. Please review the rubric for the complete requirements of the presentation.

Components

- Biography

o Who was the person?

o Where did the person live?

o When did the person live?

o When did they make their contribution?

o What contributions did they make to the Scientific Revolution or Enlightenment? Why was that

contribution important? Use details to explain your answer. You may also want to reference in

how it has influenced current inventions or ideas.

- Prezi

o Use Prezi to create a presentation about your figure. Each slide needs an illustration to support

the content. Do not copy and paste from any references. Make sure that all information is in

your own words. I would rather have a small example of your understanding than a large example

of something you copied.

- Symbol

o Choose a symbol that accurately represents your figure’s contribution. For example, a car might

best represent Henry Ford.

- Research

o You are required to use external resources to find information for this project. These need to be

properly documented in a Works Cited slide in your presentation. I strongly encourage you to use

your textbook and Gale Student Resources as resources (if possible). Use EasyBib or Citation

Machine to help you properly cite your sources.

- Model/Props

o Students must submit a real world prop or costume representative of their figure. These can

include household items, created items, practical demonstrations, or a costume. Be prepared to

explain why you chose the representative items.
