Recently in Secondary PE, students engaged in a mini athletics event. These activities included running, synchronized ball passing and an obstacle course. It allowed students to compete in a safe and healthy environment and exhibit their different skills. Students were incredibly enthusiastic and motivated and really enjoyed participating. They also showed a great deal of sportsmanship in encouraging the best out of their teammates and competitors.

We have been preparing for this show a very long time, we had a lot of rehearsals where we were practicing our lines, or drawing our Pirate Map for the play. We were trying our best to make the show look fantastic.

Everyone was so nervous! Our hands were shaking and we were afraid that we might forget our lines or movements, but luckily everything was great! We were loud and confident. I’m sure the audience liked our play. People were clapping and laughing at our funny/silly moments; for example Pirate battle with lost boys. My mother told me that the show was amazing and it was really interesting to watch. By Melisenta

At EIS East students in Year 3 –9 gave a splendid performance of Peter Pan. Thank you to Miss

Williams for inspiring our students. Here are some thoughts from

our actors!

I played Skylights, one of the pirates from the play. I found it fun since you got the opportunity to act silly and enjoy your moment.

The one thing that you had to make sure of, is that you had to stay in character. If not, the scene just wouldn't add up. Nevertheless, we were very proud of the final outcome when we saw the faces of the little kids smiling and reacting to all the moves made by the casts. We are grateful to all the people who spared their time to come watch the play. We really appreciate it. We are proud of the final outcome of Peter Pan it was great! By Precious

When I was on the stage I had butterflies in my stomach. Even though I was nervous, I was ready for action! When the show started I was so worried that I was going to

say the wrong lines. We had worked so hard to learn our lines. My favourite part was when we fought the pirates. The Lost Boys won! Then Peter Pan fought with Captain Hook with a dagger. Peter Pan didn’t finish Captain Hook – the Crocodile did! My mother and father came to the show. They said, “It was awesome!” By Emir

When the show was getting closer and closer I was getting more nervous. We did a lot of reversals. When day came on Wednesday we did two shows: one for the students then then the parents. I was so nervous that I had butterflies in my stomach but it was all worth it in the end. Overall I really I enjoyed Peter Pan. GO TEAM PETER PAN! By Ahmed

This week, Year 5, 7 and 10 students presented fantastic projects about their favorite books. This work was very successful and all the students have received their high grades. Big thanks to all students for the participation. Well done!

Subject Focus Russian (1st Language)

Junia, Y7: We had to make a PowerPoint presentation of our favorite book and we had to write a short biography of author. As my favorite book, I chose Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone. I really liked Milena’s presentation about her book, which was the diary of Anna Frank. The book seemed very interesting.

Milena, Y7: We needed to do a project about our favorite books. My favorite book is “The diary of a young girl”. Anna Frank wrote it and it was her diary, but unfortunately, she died in a gas camp. I really liked Junia’s book and I think that I want to read it now. I want to read Junia’s book, because it sounded very interesting, when she talked about it.

Laura, Y7: In Russian class, we had homework to make a PowerPoint in Russian about our favorite book. My book was about a dragon and the coconut. Not an edible coconut an animal called Coconut. My book was called Der Kleine Drache Kokosnuss und der grose Zauberer. I wrote about this book because it was my favorite one and because this book is very funny and interesting. In our PowerPoint, we had to write who was the writer of the book, when it was made and just

some good facts about the person who wrote the book. In total, I liked my choice of picking this book, because it is very nice.

Daniil, Y10: Today we were presenting our favorite books. My favorite book is “Howl’s Moving Castle” written by Diana Wynne Jones. This book is about fantastic adventures of girl named Sofie, that was turned into old lady. This book also has an Anime adaptation, but I think that book is much better than an Anime.

Recently students visited the Museum of the Great Patriotic war. This museum is dedicated to helping people understand the effect World War 2 had on the Russian people. This trip was a combined excursion for Years 7, 8 and 9 English classes and Years 10 and 11 history students. This allowed students to gain a greater understanding between what they have learned in our novel study for English and its real life connections. For history students it helped them understand the historical context for their Russian depth study. This trip helped student’s gain cross-curricular learning in multiple spheres especially with English, history and Russian. Students were enthusiastic about the trip and felt it helped them understand the significance and tragedy of World War 2.

When the trip to the Patriotic Museum happened a few days ago, it was a great experience for the IGCSE students, like my classmates and I, to expand our knowledge of World War 2. One of the exhibitions that stuck out the most, which helped us understand how people lived and felt during the Berlin Blockade, was a recreation of how a family home might have looked after the bombardment in Berlin. That particular exhibition was able to give people the chills, with just how realistic it looked. In addition to that, another part of the museum that caught my attention, were two halls that had contained the names of people who had sacrificed their lives during that period.

Secondary School Trip

Darta Year 10 We had a very interesting, fascinating and educational trip to the Patriotic War Museum. I have been there before, but I was still amazed how beautiful this museum is.

Laura Year 7 I am interested in the paintings. There were many different kinds of paintings. There was a painting about wars, there was a painting about a kid who does not want to die, and there were pictures of the Holocaust. There was also a house about how houses were back in the war. There was also walls that had been shot.

Michael Year 10 We looked at a lot of different photos and guns. There also were costumes/outfits of the people who were in the World War II. We went into many different rooms that had a 3Dish look to them they were statues, grass, and all of that stuff you would have in a fight or World War II.

Daniil Year 10 In the museum, we saw rooms that reenacted important events through all the wars like rooms with giant paintings to paint us an idea of the situation. We also saw the equipment that were used by both sides like knives or handguns. There were also uniforms that both sides wore. Then in a separate room, there was a giant memorial to all the soldiers that died.

Yu Year 8 The museum had many interesting things to look at. First, we watched a video on a big screen of how Russia looked like before World War II, which I thought was very interesting.

Year 1 & 2

Learning through play. We have had a fun filled week in Year 1 and 2 this week.

A reading and role play corner has been introduced into the classroom this week in order to encourage more natural and social use of English. So many of our students speak multiple languages so they need a variety of opportunities to 'talk' before they can think and communicate their learning in English. The children have blown me away with how much language, imagination and real life skills they have demonstrated whilst playing spontaneously and socially with their classmates. The children played with a variety of resources that encouraged imaginative role play, small world play, mathematical play, reading and story telling, scientific play and creative development. We have woven in times during the day where the children can independently explore these toys and I have seen so many natural links to their recent learning appear, such as using money to buy and sell fruit and veg in the 'shop,' (which required them to add items together, find the money to make the right amount and

calculate change) and making 2D shapes with pattern boards before finding 3D shapes in the magnet box. The children have been calling this space their 'playground' and it is a joy to see them feeling like they are playing at the same time as demonstrating their learning. In maths, we have been learning about finding bigger and smaller numbers than a comparative number by looking at place value. In English, we have been completing our Superhero stories by adding speech bubbles and action words. We enjoyed acting out some superhero scenes and writing our own speech bubbles for them. I hope you all have a restful break next week and I look forward to seeing lots of smiling faces next term!

EYFS learned the letter V extending their vocabulary by more than 15 words they found in the letter of the week box with pictures helping them remember their names. They showed some good tracing, writing and reading skills. They spoke about healthy eating and what should be on their plate. They named, sorted out and counted different types of vegetables. They were also very excited to see some sunny spells this week and helped to paint a big

Year 6 Year 5

We have been busy this week preparing for the Peter Pan production. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support us on Wednesday. We had such fun!

In English this week, students continued their new unit on Haiku poetry. Having discovered the features of the text and explored many different examples of haikus, they created their own in pairs, groups and individually. By understanding and experimenting with different words and ordering of their sentences, they were able to edit and improve their work to create poems that were more captivating to the audience.

This week in maths, students learnt to use a written column method to add amounts of money in pounds and pence; add 2-place decimals using written column addition; subtract decimal numbers using counting up (Frog).

Please remember that swimming will continue on Wednesday’s after the half-term break.

This week in English lessons Year 6 have been studying the ancient Egyptian story of Osiris. The children have particularly been focusing on character development and the different ways in which a writer can share the personality of their characters with the reader. We looked at how speech, actions, thoughts and backstories can all be used to create more interesting and engaging characters.

In Maths, the children prepared for and sat their half termly assessments. It was good to see the children's hard work throughout the term being rewarded with some positive results! Of course, there is always room for progress and we look forward to more hard work and successes after the holidays!

Year 5 & 6 Science In Year 5 and 6 Science the children learned about reversible and irreversible changes. They discussed prior learning about reversible changes, such as mixing salt and water to create a salt water solution and using evaporation and condensation to reverse changes. The children then carried out their own experiments which led to irreversible changes, such as adding effervescent tablets to water and also adding washing powder to lemon juice.
