HUMAN ACTIVITIES THAT TRETHEN THE ECOSYSTEM

1. Deforestation 2. Burning of fossil fuels 3. Overuse of fertilizers in intensive farming 4. Dumping of domestic and industrial waste

Human activities affected the whole ecosystem causing conflicts and arise in pollution in the world today.

We need to protect and reserved the ecosystem for our use in the future. The negative effects are hasty, unplanned development and mismanagement, thus cause problems to the balance of the ecosystem such as air, water and land pollution.

Greenhouse effects, global warming are warning to the human beings to stop open deforestation and polluting to the environments.Negative effects:

a) These problems bring out negative effects to the economic resources, health and survival of the ecosystems.

b) These problems to causing a lot of viruses to attack the human health.

THE IMPACT OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES ON THE ECOSYSTEM

Deforestation and its effect

1. Rapid destruction of woodlands or removal or trees from the forest are known as deforestation.

2. Mostly this occurs when people want to do agriculture and development at the place.

3. Tropical rainforest, important ecological roles:a) Rainforest are the oldest ecosystem on earth and house almost

half of the flora and fauna of the world.b) Contain many unique species which provide food, medicine and

other biological products. 70% of the plants today are useful for treatments, can only be found in the tropical rainforest s.

c) It regulates the climate by influencing wind, rainfall, humidity, and temperature patterns.

d) It is also called ‘carbon sink’ of the earth because they absorbed vast amounts of carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and at the same time release oxygen into the atmosphere.

e) They also serve as water catchment areas.4. In general, deforestation results in:

a) Soil erosion b) Flash floodsc) Landslides

5. Forest absorbs about 87 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare through photosynthesis every year, and at the same time release an equal amount of oxygen into the atmosphere.

DEFORESTATION RESULTS IN THE LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY

Deforestation has a devastating effect on the biodiversity in the tropical rain forest, causing the destruction of millions of species in the forest by human activities, such as:

Extinction Of Rare Species .Example: The White Tiger, Orang Utan And Elephants.

Removal Of Bases Of Numerous Food Webs

Extinction Of Flora And Fauna.Loss Of Rare Species And Unstable Ecosytem.

Loss Of Habitats

Reduces The Biodiversity.Inbalance In The Enviromental System Due To The Loss Of Floral.

Deforestation disrupts the normal weather patterns, creating hotter, drier weather and causing global climatic changes.

The removal of trees reduces transpiration, rain fall and the rate at which plants absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis.

This leads to an increase in the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere. High level of carbon dioxide prevents heat from escaping from the atmosphere. This is known as the greenhouse effect which is believed to lead to global warming.

Forest clearing and burning of wood results in air pollution and released more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Burning of tree in the tropics adds about 25% more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

Burning of fossil fuels and its effects

The burning of fossil fuels adds about 75% of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

An increase in carbon dioxide level is associated with the greenhouse effect and global warming.
