-Why EMLT ?-What is the reason behind Implementing this project?-What are the aims?

• Educated unemployment” and “education mismatch” are two important factors in the labour market in Turkey and European Union Countries.

• Among employed young people, the ratio of education-job or education skills mismatches are getting higher.

WHY EMLT PROJECT?

• According to recent researches, when we consider how economies create employment with respect to the education levels of employees, we can observe the increasing rate in unemployment of well educated people.

• In Europe, the reasons behind graduate unemployment can be considered from two different perspectives:

RESULTS OF MISMATCH Wage Differences

• Overeducated workers earn more than the ones working in their field who have lower education levels. Unsurprisingly, they earn less than properly matched ones who are in the same level of education.

RESULTS OF MISMATCH

Mobility of Workers• According to Sicherman,

overeducated people are more likely to change their jobs or their firms than ones who are adequately educated and undereducated.

Job Satisfaction

• In work, individuals want to satisfy their financial and spiritual needs. While general satisfaction plays an important role to invest on human capital, job satisfaction is also important for working individuals. It effects motivation and productivity of people.

• Mismatch causes a lower job satisfaction level for workers than their properly matched ones.

RESULTS OF MISMATCH

Training Costs• Hersch [1991] found an inverse relationship

between over-education and training time. (an additional year of surplus schooling reduces training time by 1.65 weeks for males and 1.75 weeks for females.) If we take training time as a cost for firms, higher the schooling lower the cost.

Project Duration

• EMLT Module Distance Education System as a new product for reducing Education Job Mismatch in European Area” was started on 1st February 2015 and will be finished on 1st February 2017.

• This means that project will take 24 months.

Mismatch at Literature

• There is an increasing rate of well-educated people in the society,

• There is not enough suitable jobs which well-educated people can match.

That reasons cause a huge amount of graduates do not work in a relative field of their education and that educational mismatch brings also some skills mismatch.

WHY EMLT ?• Along with the raising ratio of graduates to youth population in the developing as

well as developed countries, debate on the mismatch in the job market and its impact on outcomes such as wages and job satisfaction have been examined by labour economists. “Educated unemployment” and “education mismatch” are two important factors in the labour market in Turkey and European Union Countries.

• The ratio of education-job or education skills mismatches are increasing among employed young people. People cannot find the jobs which are easily reflect their skills. This fact is basically the source of inspiration for this project.

ANA BAŞLIK

Alt Başlık

Education requires effort, money and time and after this kind of investment. If people cannot use their skills and qualifications properly, it causes huge economic waste for them and for the national economy. Thus, it is important to stem this waste and, decrease the education- job gap. Thereby enhancing job satisfaction among young people is an essential social, political and economic issue for the countries. In order to remedy the education- job gap, some important measures need to be introduced, such as developing greater sector- higher education cooperation and encouraging more young people to gain work experience throughout their educational career/ degree. In this project, these two important factors are considered and provide the impetus for the research.

Self-development and training are indispensable in today’s world. So, on the sub-modules of the project, some self-help materials that can facilitate young people developing and foreseeing their future career plans whilst completing their degree, are designed as some of the basic outcomes of the project.

WHY EMLT • Educational mismatch is a concern for national economies all over

the world, including the European Union member states. In general, this term is associated with the human capital, which individuals contribute as workers to a company to generate added value and thereby meet the productivity demands of the labour market.

• This concept is generally used to assess and analyze educational and career situations that have led to employment/unemployment.

WHY EMLT • The process of creating this module will be developed in two stages: First

the “Research part” and secondly, the “Creative part”. In the research part, the curriculum, pedagogy and methodology of the EMLT will be fully investigated.

• The first aim of the research part is defining the dimensions of the education- job mismatch and its causes, both in Turkey and the partner countries. The EMLT Module is designed in consultation with the university, public and private sectors.

• The cooperation between sectors is going to take the current sociocultural circumstances of host and partner countries into consideration

The Aim Of EMLT Project

• The designed EMLT digital product is sustainable with a flexible service capacity that enables distance education. The essential point that makes difference of the project is providing sustainable self-career development opportunity by ruling out the goal setting obstacles.

The Aim Of EMLT Project • The main purpose of the EMLT project is to identify the reasons, dimensions and results of the

“education-job mismatch” in the research phase of the project. In the implementation phase, the aim will be to decrease the education- job mismatch among young people by means of the emergent EMLT digital self-development product.

Phase of the EMLT Project• The EMLT project has four phases;• Q1 Research Phase,

– (02/10/2015-02/10/2017)

• Q2 Creating The Digital Product and LMS – (02/10/2015 – 08/31/2015)

• Q3 Prepearing Cirriculum of Learning/Teaching Material – (10/03/2015-10/08/2015)

• Q4 Open Online EMLT LMS – (10/09/2015-10/06/2016)

The EMLT Project Phase in Job Descriptions

• In the research phase, we want to determine the size of mismatch and the job satisfaction levels by analyzing the data from our survey.

• The data will be collected from a total 1200 surveys from 4 participant countries by 300 filled surveys from each.

• By analyzing the data, we will be able to see what are the differences or similarities of participating countries under the concepts of mismatch and satisfaction. This will help us to develop better strategies.

The EMLT Project Phase in Job Descriptions

• In the creating EMLT digital product phase, there will be created a learning management system which is consist of 13 different modules.

• The aim is to allow 120 students to get some skills and abilities by using the LMS and finishing these modules.

• In this way, we believe that we can reduce the education-job mismatch.
