EMC Technology Advantages

EMC Satcom Technologies GmbHEMC Satcom’s flagship product, the NRS Technology is based on EMC Satcom’s patented Noise Reduction System Technology enabling an average of 30% and up to 50% savings in satellite MHz by using its state of the art carrier cancellation capability to save inbound MHz by cancelling the outbound carrier/s.

The NRS Product Suite features:• NRS NODE - for SCPC networks• NRS rNODE - for the remote side in SCPC networks• NRS RAY - for DVB-RCS/TDMA networks• NRS SECTOR & iSECTOR - for large SCPC links either station kept or inclined orbit

Features & Benefits:• Hub only requirement - where there is an 8dB power density dif-ference (existing or obtainable) between the hub antenna and the remote antenna carrier cancellation is achieved with an NRS in the hub only.• Modem & modulation type open - works with any type of existing modem allowing modem investment to be maintained• Link symmetry open - works with any combination forward & return Mbps link size*• Link tolerance in inclined orbit links - works in inclined orbit links &networks up to 6 degrees of inclination• C, Ku, L, S and X-band operation - flexible to any satellite band• Cancellation from 1MHz to 72MHz - applicable to any size link• Cancellation in 36MHz, 54MHz & 72MHz - covers any transponder size with a single unit• Operational in IF-70, 140 and L-band - works in any RF chain• Multicarrier cancellation - one NRS can cancel up to 30 outbound carriers with a single unit (NRS NoDE)Depth of dB cancellation - over 35dB allowing carrier cancellation more efficiently in more networks• Works with all brands of TDMA/DVB-RCS hubs - allows MHz to be

saved whatever the brand of TDMA hub being operated

*antenna at each end of the link must be under the same satellite beam

The NRS Technology eliminates the need for separate satellite capacity in the forward and return channel by enabling both direc-tions of transmission to share the same satellite bandwidth capacity. The NRS Technology can be installed at existing sites without the requirement to change the current modem and ability to handle multiple outbound carriers and unlimited inboundcarriers up to the size of the aggregate of outbound cancellation within a single NRS unit.

Additionally, by combining the NRS NoDE with the EMC Satcom Altitude SCPC modem even further oPEX and CAPEX savings, un-matched in the market today, are achievable.

EMC Technology Advantages

The NRS technology has three different versions designed for different types of satellite links and networks:

NRS NODEDesigned for SCPC networks either for Hub only or for Hub and remote (NRS rNoDE) installations where the hub antenna and the remote antenna have a greater than 8dB difference or as a hub and remote installation with one NRS NoDE at the hub and one NRS rNoDE in each remote. up to 30 outbound carriers can be managed by a single NRS NoDE at the hub covering the full transponder or satellite MHz lease.

NRS NoDE: Case StudyWith a network heavily dependent on satellite, the African opera-tor’s subscriber growth was constrained by the high cost of satellite capacity on a per TRX basis at each BTS. With NRS NoDE installed at the hub the MHz allocated for the inbound were saved and the operator in growing the network was able to incorporate the saved MHz onto the outbound allowing for a 55% network growth with-out purchasing any additional satellite capacity.

NRS RAYDesigned for TDMA star networks as a hub only installation, the NRS RAY works with all leading brands of DVB-RCS/TDMA hubs allowing the inbound allocation of satellite MHz to be saved.

NRS RAY: Case StudyThe mobile operator in Asia was faced with a mandate from the government to provide universal service to remote communi-ties with no current mobile service. With demand predicted to be less than a single TRX at each new BTS the solution required the opex to be ultra low in order for each site to be EBITDA positive. By combining the NRS RAY with a well known TDMA hub the operator was able to achieve an low opex making the project commercially feasible by using 30% less MHz than would otherwise be required.

NRS SECTOR AND ISECTORDesigned for symmetrical SCPC/SCPC point to point links such as STM-1s, allowing the circuit to operate in a single transponder.

NRS SECToR: Case StudyThe Asia-Pacific based telecommunication company was operating an STM-1 using two 72MHz transponders. By implementing the NRS SECToR at each end of the link this allowed the 155/155Mbps to be run inside a single 72MHz transponder. As a result this saved the operator over $2million a year in transponder costs.

Ú EMC Fast Ethernet

EMC has developed Fast Ethernet, a patent pending technology that enables a a next generation Internet that is better, more secure and faster. This new EMC exclusive technology delivers speeds up to 100 Mbps directly to the customer wherever they are located. Fast Ethernet allows and guarantees downloads 10 times faster than a 2Mbps dedicated terrestrial link. This service is ideal for software distribution, traffic balancing, video broadcast, back-up or business continuity, internet access and broadcasting applications.

Internet traffic consumes around more than 90 percent of the existing communication channels around the world and broadband is limited in geographical coverage and performance and is not consistent in quality even in some of the most developed countries like uSA and Japan.

In emerging markets the situation is even worse where local Inter-net exchanges are not available and web pages or corporate data centers are hosted in different and remote continents making the WAN a limiting factor for the Internet performance. Every second the same content from the Internet is sent thousands or some time millions of times each time utilizing a communication channel and filling them of unnecessary redundant data in an inefficient way us-ing inefficient legacy protocols and inefficient web page structures coming from decades ago, from the beginnings of the Internet.

The insecurity and management resources of Internet based links add another layer of complexity to the current use of the Internet in particular for multinationals operating in hundreds of countries making Internet based connections difficult to maintain and oper-ate requiring hundreds or thousands of firewall systems that make the connections even more inefficient.

Multimedia, HD video, IPTV, the new adoption of 3D, the increasing usage of the Internet to access files, emails attachments and videos hosted on the cloud and the convergence of Voice, Video and Data services via the Internet does not stop and continue to drive more and more Internet traffic that requires a better Internet that can be accessed in an efficient, seamless, more predictable and secure way anywhere in the planet.

More and more Enterprise customers are seeing the great value of combining EMC Fast Ethernet with their existing EMC satellite links, EMC terrestrial Links or EMC’s 3rd party links since the bandwidth delivered by EMC Fast Ethernet is unprecedented.

Better, secure and faster EMC Fast Ethernet can be accessed in an

efficient, more predictable and secure way

• The client avoids the expense of setting up a second physical structure and the maintenance costs associated.

• The facilities are available 24/7 on a moment’s notice with sus-tained communications and uninterrupted power supply.

• Sustaining a solid business continuity plan can help our clients meet regulatory compliance and secure new business opportunities.

• Depending on insurance coverage, emergency operational expenses may be covered by the client’s insurance policy. In some cases, implementing a sound business continuity plan may reduce insurance costs.

• The operational process allows for centralized management with one point of control to ensure all procedures are followed in accord-ance with the organization’s BC/DR plan.

• For collocation clients, the main server can be protected in a se-cure facility with direct and remote access. This allows remote users to safely access applications via secure Internet connections.

• Due to the surrounding Alps, the area is naturally protected against climatic or atmospheric impacts.

• The availability of three access security levels ensures the safeguard of classified information.

• In cases of crisis, IT personnel can focus on system management instead of reinstalling and managing individual end-user desktops. This results in a faster operational turnaround and reduces negative impact to the organization.

Business continuity hinges on key management decisions necessary to maintain the functionality of a company. In cases of unplanned events, such a terrorist attacks, devastated war zones, natural disas-ters, or any disruption to business operations, a company’s manage-ment team must ensure that key personnel will remain operational along with its information infrastructure.

Remaining operational during a disaster makes the difference between financial sustainability and extensive losses. An organiza-tion that has an effective and well-tested business continuity plan is more likely to make the right decisions in the first few hours of a business interruption and to subsequently undertake the best actions to limit the impact on its financial position. It has a better chance of incurring significantly less additional expenditure at the time of a disruption.

EMC Disaster Recovery Solution provides a complete work environ-ment within EMC the Raisting Teleport premises, set in an ideal loca-tion for ensuring business continuity. Surrounded by the Alps and located one hour from Munich, this region is home to Germany’s major national and international Fiber Backbone ring.
