iPads In The Classroom

• Purpose• The purpose of using iPads in the classroom as an Emerging

Technology if implemented in my school/district would decrease the budget by eliminating the purchase of textbooks for classrooms/subjects, thus eliminating storage and accountability. This technological advancement would make our district more competitive with other schools/districts.

Vision for Technology• iPads can be used to

download textbooks for all subjects and eliminate the thousands of dollars spent on textbook purchase.

iPads OverviewVision• Technology in the

schools should be engaging each student in an “Constructivist” method of Pedagogy that creates an environment for thinking, exploring, with social interactions with other students.

iPads In The Classroom OverviewVision

• This Emerging Technology would allow the classrooms without computers for students to have assigned 28-30 computers for the students to use to complete their assignments or work with the teacher.

The grade levels for all students K-12

iPads in the Classroom• “Students will now

experience the most amazing textbooks they’ve ever read. They can flip through a book by sliding their finger along thumbnail images of the pages”

• . If they don’t know the definition of a word, one tap takes them to a glossary or dictionary. No longer limited to a single picture. They can access a photo gallery .

• A new kind of textbook. For a new kind of student.

• or dive into an image with interactive captions. They can use a finger to rotate a 3D object to show a human brain from every angle, or have the answer spring to life in an interactive chapter review.

Strategy for teacher/Student Use.

• Use in classrooms for daily class assignments can be pre-loaded on the computer for all courses taught• You will have access

to the World library catalog free from • Major universities.

• You will be able to use the Apps store to • Access multi-touch

textbooks.• iBook's textbooks

from the textbook section of the iBook store downloaded to iPads

Equipment • You will need iPads

for every teacher and students.• You will need a

mechanism to lock the iPad to the individual desks for student daily use to prevent theft. • Video output cable

• Video output cable so you can stream wirelessly to any HDTV or via Apple TV.

Technical Support• Technical support will

come from the Apple team at CCSSD.• All of Apple

computers are not vulnerable to viruses,therefore problems will be minimal.

Cost and Funding of EmergingTechnology

• Each iPad cost the consumer $499.00, the school will probably get a discount for purchases in bulk.

• Funding could be Technology Grants• SPLOST funds• Corporate support.

Meeting Standards in The Classroom

• Teaching Engineering Technology standards in the classroom will be met by each student using this device to access books,articles, relating to the GPS Focus standards ENGR-FET-2-5

• GPS Academic standards SCSH 3-4• Where the student

will use tools and instruments for observing, measuring, and manipulating scientific data and equipment.

Meeting Standards in The Classroom

• Students will have all of the information needed to complete an assignment within this device(iPad) they will be able to use high order thinking skills, they will be able to differentiate between students.

• The emerging technolgy device would alow each student to communicate world wide with other students studying the same projects.

Research &Implementation• There are plenty of

schools/districts around the country and in the U.S. that uses this technology in the classroom to assist and support the teacher in the classroom.

• There will have to be a workshop/training session for all administration, teachers and faculty during the summer when school is out for everyone to be trained. There will be staf development credit.

Reflections of Emerging Technology

• I really believe that the implementation of the iPad will be beneficial to the school and the district. I am just getting started with the research through Apple and its many avenues of research.

• I am looking forward to its completion. I learned a lot about iPad and its capabilities .
