Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a day of fasting, one full meal is al-lowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and old-er. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt con-cerning fasting and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Good Friday, April 3, 2015, is a day of fasting and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of absti-nence.
Fasting, almsgiving and prayer are the three tradi-tional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechu-mens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Bap-tism or of renewal of Baptism at Easter.
El ayuno debe ser observado por todos los adultos de 18 años de edad en adelante y que aún no ha-yan celebrado su cumpleaños número 59. En un día de ayuno se permite una comida completa. Las otras dos comidas, deberán ser lo suficientes para mantener las fuerzas, todo de acuerdo a las nece-

El 3 de abril 2015, Viernes Santo, es un día de ayuno y abstinencia. Los viernes de Cuaresma son también días de abstinencia.
El ayuno, la limosna y la oración son las tres disci-plinas tradicionales de la Cuaresma. Los fieles y catecúmenos deben realizar estas prácticas seria-mente, con un espíritu de penitencia y de prepara-ción para el Bautismo o de la renovación del Bau-tismo en la Pascua.

C’est lui que Jean et Marie, ainsi que de nombreuses personnes anonymes, ont choisi de suivre, dans le silence. Fils de Dieu, Jésus se donne en aimant au prix de sa vie. Ainsi, le Dieu d’amour et de vie se dit dans le visage d’un homme agonisant, abandonné de tous. Le Dieu de la justice manifeste son identité dans la condamnation d’un innocent. C’est un Dieu qui est faible au lieu d’être fort, victime au lieu d’être triomphant, serviteur au lieu d’être roi. Par sa passion et sa mort, Jésus révèle la grandeur de Dieu. Au fond, en christianisme, la vie s’engendre dans la souffrance, la vie surgit de la mort. Célébrer la passion du Seigneur, c’est, chaque année, découvrir la proximité invraisemblable de Dieu sur le chemin de notre vie.

PALM SUNDAY
We begin today the most solemn week in the Church year. It begins with Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. People are rejoicing. People are excited about this Messiah who has come to save them from their sin, to bring them new life. What is so important to notice is that Jesus doesn’t come riding into Jerusalem on a great horse. He comes on a donkey, an image of an ordinary animal of burden. There is nothing triumphant or powerful in that means of entry. What Jesus is trying to say is: “I come into this situation not as one filled with human power to conquer what is there. I come in powerlessness.” That is the hardest thing for us to comprehend about this figure Jesus: He teaches us all about the power of powerlessness. Of submission. Of giving in. Of acceptance. But today’s festive entrance should not overpower the focus of this liturgy – the Passion of our Lord. On this day, the Church proclaims the story of the Lord's passion and death. Many of us can identify with today’s responsorial psalm which is the prayer of Jesus on the cross, “My God, my God, why have You abandoned me?” It is when we feel this way that we put to practice what Jesus shows us with His entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey; to find power in the powerless moments of our lives.

Comenzamos hoy la semana más solemne del año litúrgico en la Iglesia. La misa comienza con la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén. Hoy el pueblo se regocija lleno de entusiasmo con este
Mesías que ha venido a salvarles de su pecado; a traerles vida nueva. Lo más importante en notar aquí es que Jesús no vino cabalgando hacia Jerusalén sobre un gran caballo blanco. El viene en un burro, imagen de un animal normal que se usa para trabajar y cargar cosas. No hay nada triunfal en ese medio de entrada. Lo que
Jesús está tratando de decir es: “Vengo en esta situación, no como uno lleno de poder para conquistar lo que hay aquí; Al contrario, vengo impotente. “Esto es lo más difícil de comprender sobre esta figura de Jesús: él nos enseña sobre el poder de la impotencia; de someternos, de entregarnos, de aceptación. Pero la entrada festiva de hoy no debe dominar el foco de ésta liturgia que es- la Pasión del Señor. Hoy día, la Iglesia proclama la historia de la pasión y muerte de Jesús. Muchos de nosotros podemos identificarnos con el salmo de hoy, una de las siete palabras de Jesús en la cruz, “¿Dios mío, Dios mío, por que me has abandonado?” Es cuando nos sentimos así que ponemos en práctica lo que Jesús nos muestra con Su entrada a Jerusalén sobre un burro; el encontrar poder en los momentos mas débiles de nuestras vidas.
