Cathie is a third generation Californian and a 1966 graduate of Napa High School. She earned her B.S. degree in Home Economics from Chico State College. She has been sewing since she was a child and quilting since 1979. In 1988, she began teaching and judging quilts and wearable art. Cathie’s ten-year experience as a West Coast Field Editor for American Quilter magazine added extensive knowledge and expansive techniques to her skill base. She chooses art medium is fabric and within its wide design possibilities, she found everything necessary to express her creativity. Her participation in multiple Fairfield/Bernina Fashion shows provided a venue to express her love of quilting in ‘wearable, quilt bases” clothing. However, Cathie continues to create original wall quilts combining skilled piecework and machine appliqué. Color is of utmost importance to Cathie and she utilizes bright, bold chunks of color in her quilt art. Rickrack and other trims, polka dots, stripes, florals and geometric prints are all about the color and movement Cathie uses in her art. Cathie is proud to be a national Bernina Artesian and Bernina sewing machines help her create all that she can imagine.

Don’t Forget—Name Tag Challenge Start 2013 with a new name tag! I'm challenging all of our members to make a new name tag and we will vote on our favorites at the January meeting. Lisa Nakao, our membership chair, has suggested that every-one make their names large so they could be seen easily. Look at Helen Burke's name tag at the next meet-ing. Her name is easily read from across the room. There are no special rules, just surprise us all with your new name tag!!! Anita Jordan

We have had a new book, Scandinavian Quilt Style, donated to EGQG in addition to a number of quilting magazines from Jan Seyk, and Malene Evans said another member had brought her a bunch of magazines for the Library that had already been sorted and tied together.

The magazines will not be entered into the data base until after the first of the year. To keep the number of magazines manageable, some will be offered for free towards the end of the year or sooner depending on the date of the maga-zines.

I am currently deleting all the books that were sold and updating five that were donated. The new listing will have the old numbers originally assigned. The new books will be added to the mix and I am in the process of checking our books against the list. So far I have two books that seems to have gone visiting, so please check your sewing room and see if you may have them buried under all that new fabric. One book is Merry Christmas Quilts and the other is Re-versible Vests. No fines will be levied and your name will not be published, you may bring in a brown bag and leave with me at the next meeting.

Remember our next meeting will be loads of fun. Check the NEWSLETTER for all the details of date, time and if you need to bring something. The money raised by the Fundraiser's Committee will go to the Elk Grove Food Bank to assist them in efforts to feed the hungry.

It is such a wonderful experience working with so many fine men and women who are so generous in so many ways.

Merry Christmas,

Clarice

PS No LIBRARY until the January meeting but I will be happy to take any book or magazine or pattern you may have forgotten to return. Thanks for your help.

Thank you to everyone who came to the November Community Service Sew. I didn’t get a count, but there were about all the sewers we could fit into the room.

Fifty-six pillowcases and 15 quilts were finished or turned in during the day. We also have 118 Christmas stockings to give to River Oak Center for Children. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, some helpful hints were passed along, and the pizza was much appreciated.

Hurricane Sandy flood relief information

Page 9 Volume 15, Issue 6

In the November 16th “Our Region” section of the Sacramento Bee is a column titles “Applause” It gives Kudo’s to local residents, the first one is to our own Sylvia Porter. The article says: Kudos to: Sylvia Porter, quilter: Accomplishments: Created lap quilts for comfort of terminally ill patients Details: Porter has made dozens of quilts that have been donated to Sutter Hospice. Patients re-ceived great comfort from their beauty and warmth. The quilts have become treasured mementos for grieving family members. Great job Sylvia!

We are passing along some information from Kerry Mertle of Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County about outreach to quilters effected by Hurricane Sandy. If you or your group would like to participate, here is the information Kerry shared with us. Kerry had these questions: Is the quilting community planning on helping the victims of the Super-storm Sandy that devastates the east coast of the US last week? Are quilt stores going to be started up in the other states to help deliver quilts? Are replacement sewing machines going to be sent to families to repair and replace bedding, draperies and clothing lost in the storm and flood? Here is the answer: The Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine provided the following information for the Sandy flood re-lief: http://www.equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/quiltrelief.html In E-Quiter.com website, the Timeless Treasures have opened their warehouse to receive and distribute quilts for the flooding in New Jersey and New York. Hopefully, local businesses can provide quilting resources and shipping instructions. I hope this is helpful for people that feel isolated from the disaster on the East Coast.
