Static Electricity Lab

• Prepare for a bad hair day!• 9 mini-labs

– Stay focused! Don’t run out of time!– After you finish, experiment more!

• Clean Up:– Everything goes back in the box like you found it.

– All paper, salt, etc. needs to be picked up off the floor.

– Balloons go back in the bag.

Conductors and Insulators Lab

• Safety:– Wires may be sharp!– Alligator clips can bite!– Braces tester…

• Clean Up:– Everything goes back in the box like you found it.

– All circuits need to be completely disassembled.

– Spills need to be cleaned up.

Electroscope Lab• Muy Fragile!

– Gold leaf

• Discharging the Electroscope– Be Patient!

• Clean Up:– Everything goes back in the box like you found it.

– All gold leaf fragments and foil go in the trash.

– Balloons go back in the bag.

Currents and Circuits Lab• Safety:

– Wires may be sharp!

• Clean Up:– Everything goes back in the box like you found it.

– All circuits need to be completely disassembled.

If you can’t figure it out…

• Keep trying!– There’s more than one way to do most things! Try to figure it out on your own – it’ll stick better!

• Ask a table-mate– There’s 20+ of you and one of me!

Lab Behavior• Stay focused!

– Don’t scramble to finish at the last minute. There’s plenty of time if you stay on task!

• Be respectful of the materials– Be careful with glassware, wires, etc.
