For us to know what specific lights are right for our house, we

need to have a basic understand of what properties or aspects

will lights help improve our homes. Lighting helps us do more

of our tasks, especially at night. It helps us see better in our

homes. Lighting also improves the ambience, or the mood and

experience of our house. Ambience is important, as it partly

defines your home. Are you welcoming to others or are you the

protective type of family?

different types of light available for us

to install in our homes. Knowing this

provides us more ideas on choosing

what lights to install. Here are some of

the types of lights:



Downlights

also known as Recessed Light is

a light fixture installed in a

hollow opening in a ceiling.



Uplights

usually mounted either on the

floor or on a wall in order to

throw light onto the ceiling.



Accent Lights

lights that are used for

highlighting. They are used

mostly for highlighting plants,

pictures, and statues.



Lamps

Both a task friendly and

decorative type of light. It is

used mostly for tables and

floors.



Discreet Lights

Type of light that keeps the light

source hidden from view.

One should understand that the one who must do the

designing of the house is its owner. If you’re letting others

do that, it’s just like letting them define you. You may ask

guidance from people to learn more knowledge, to help you

in deciding the right lights for your home. Listed are 6

pointers that we would like to share to you to help you in

this goal:



1. Specify the goal for your lights. This is the first and

most important tip. For you to become successful in your

lighting, make sure that you have specified the goals for

your lights in each room. Reasons are important. If you’re

light is installed for no reason, then better remove it to save

electrical expenses.



2. Use multiple light sources for in a room. In one room,

there are many tasks that can be done in which the lighting

needs also differ. List all of the possible activities and tasks

that you may do for a specific room and put in par the type

of light it will need. Sorting the list by priority order is also

recommended for budgeting purposes.



3. Use downlights for your ceilings. Downlights are highly

recommended to use because, not only they are bright, they

are neat to look at than bulky bulbs. The most popular types

of downlights are the LED. It’s not just bright and neat, it is

also cost efficient and more friendly to the environment.



4. Add night lighting for kid’s room. Some kids are afraid

of the dark and it’s really hard for some to sleep when

there’s a bright light. As parents we care about our children

and we want them to sleep soundly all night long. Night

lighting is best for kid’s room. It’s not that bright, and not

too dark and it gives a comfortable feeling.



5. Add a Chandelier in your living room. Chandeliers are

one of the best additions in a house. It’s best to add in the

living room as this is the part of the house where guests

stays. In choosing a chandelier, make sure that the space it

occupies is just right. The colour it emits is also important

as it provides the mood for your house. Most goals for

chandeliers is to give a nice impression for the guests.



6. Light you’re outdoors. Your house’s outdoors are also

one of the important parts to have lights. At night time,

having outdoor lights is necessary as it adds security to our

house. The areas that need lighting are the door and the

way to it. Other areas to have lighting would be in your

garden or backyard. Add highlights to your best plant or

flower or elements that help define your home.



Do remember that as owners of your home, you and only

you have the right in deciding what light works best for you.

You should never be afraid in choosing things, and also in

buying things for the benefit of your home. Our house is our

shelter, and we should give it our best because it’s our

family who will benefit most from it.
