Exercise: You Bet It Still Works! My 83-year-old grandfather is an animal! He has always been fairly active in his community and as a worker but he has really turned up the heat on his exercise regiment over the past several months and he is seeing real health benefits. He walks 1 ½ to 2 miles per day and he spends time on his old Ab-Lounge. As your lifestyle slowly shifts and you have fewer out of the house activities, be sure to implement a consistent exercise routine. Remember, it doesn’t have to be Ab-Lounges. Below are just a few ideas on how to maintain your functional fitness: Walking Gardening or yard work Grocery Shopping Cooking Senior-specific aerobic classes Volunteering at a soup kitchen All of these are great ways to stay in shape and many of them also allow you to spend quality time with friends, family and community members. Remember to pace yourself and make the event fun so that you are more likely to continue doing it. Don’t wait, start slow, consult your physician and start your exercise program today! It’s never too late and yes, it still works!!!
