EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC

HISTORY CONGRESS BUDAPEST

1982

The International Economic History Association announces that the Eighth International Economic History Congress will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from 16 to 20 August 1982. It is sponsored by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The academic sessions of the Congress will take three forms. First, the discussion of three 14 A" themes each in 2 - 3 three-and-a-half-hour sessions with the contribution of experts. In preparation for these, three reports (together with necessary supporting papers) will be prepared by colloquia meetings during 1980 - 81, and they will be available in printed form to all registered participants in advance of the Congress during 1982. A found table discussion connected to the "A" sessions based on preliminary texts will be held with the contribution of experts. Second, there will be discussion of twelve "B" themes each with 2 three-hour sessions. Within each of these themes eight to ten papers will be prepared and presented in summary for discussion. The papers will be available on request in advance of the Congress, and their authors will have the opportunity to speak briefly on the subject. Third, in the case of "C" themes, there will be opportunities for informal discussion and presentation of papers on areas not embraced within the framework of "A" and "B" themes. Each of the "C" themes will be discussed in one three-and-a-half-hour session.

Official Languages The official languages of the Congress are English, French, German and Russian.

Congress participation

There will be two categories of participants : 1. Participants All Participants will be entitled to :

(a) Attend any of the working sessions of the Congress. (b) Receive in advance of the Congress a bound set of "A" Theme reports. (c) Request copies of "B" Theme papers. Participants will be given the opportunity of requesting

that these are either sent to them by post (in advance of the Congress) or be made available to them on their arrival at the Congress. In each case, papers will be sold to Participants at a reasonable price. Postage charges will be included in the price where papers are requested in advance.

(d) Receive all Congress publicity material. (e) Participate in the official Social Programme of the Congress. (0 Use the special facilities provided at the Congress Center.

2. Accompanying persons Participants may register persons accompanying them as Accompanying Persons. They will be entitled to :

(a) Participate in the official Social Programme of the Congress. (b) Participate in the events and tours for Accompanying Persons. (c) Use the special facilities provided at the Congress Center.

They will not, however, receive a free copy of the "A" Theme reports. Participants should register those persons accompanying them as an Accompanying Person if they wish them to take part in the official social programme of the Congress.

Registration A final confirmation form will be sent to all persons who return the enclosed Preliminary Registration Card in September 1981. Registration fees will be announced in this programme.

Preliminary registration All those who are intending to participate in the Congress or who wish to receive a copy of the Provisional Programme and Registration Form should write to the Organizing Committee of the Eigth International Economic History Congress
