effects of earthquake and tsunami
TRANSCRIPT
Earthquake
• A violent tremor in the earth’s crust, sending out a
series of shock waves in all directions from its place
of origin or epicenter.
CAUSE-
• When two tectonic plates comes in contact with one
another.
Effects
• Damage to human structures
• Landslides
• Flash floods(Dams)
• Deformation of ground surface
• Tsunami
• Soil Liquefaction
Tsunami
• a long, high sea wave caused by an earthquake or other
disturbance
• Japanese, from tsu ‘harbour’ + nami ‘wave’.
CAUSE-
By a strong earthquake on the ocean bed
Effects
• Damaging property
• Loss of life
• Flooding and contamination of drinking water
• Environmental impacts
Solid wastes and disaster debris
Radiation from nuclear plants
• Psychological effect
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD)
Remedies
Responsible planning
Resist the temptation to build on soft, water-saturated
foundations
Using rubber or steel pads to isolate the structure
Seismic retrofitting
High Seawalls
Conclusion
• Effect of these disasters are very severe which cause a
huge loss of lives and destruction.
• Tsunami is a naturally occurring event for which we have
to rely upon the tsunami warning system.
• Earthquake effect can be minimized with proper planned
design structures.
• Relief programs should be conducted immediately after
these events.
