ANCIENT EGYPT

Education was introduced to Egypt by Ottoman Pasha Muhammad Ali, during the early 1800s. He started a system of dual education at the time: one serving the kids attending Islamic schools went to a school called the Kuttab and another called Madrasa, which is the Arabic word for school.

ANCIENT EGYPT

The Kuttab taught students the basics of reading and writing by memorizing and reciting verses of the Quran, as the Madrasa taught a more modern education style. Now, Egypt is the largest education style in the Middle East and North Africa and have the literacy rate of 72%.

ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA

In ancient Mesopotamia, there wasn’t really a set education system. Children back then just learned how to do things by their parents teaching them. If you were a boy from Mesopotamia, you would be able to learn things from your father. For example, if you were the son of a baker, then you could learn how to bake goods from your father.

If you were a girl in ancient Mesopotamia, you learned the skills of your mother which include cooking and raising children. Basically, you were just learning the jobs that your parents had.

ANCIENT GREECE

Formal education was mostly for men and was not offered to women or slaves. As girls couldn’t receive formal education, they were taught informally by their mother. A mother would teach her daughter all of the household basics like how to clean the house and take care of children.

There were two forms of education in ancient Greece: formal and informal. Formal education was education from a tutor or public school and informal education was provided by a free teacher, and took place in a private setting. In Greece, education was an important part of a person’s life.

ANCIENT CHINA

In ancient China, confucianism was probably the biggest influence on education in all of China’s history. Then, some places in China started building small public schools for children to learn. Not only higher class people could attend this school, but common men were able to attend school as they use the education to becoming a gentleman.

Despite that, some children that lived in China didn’t get an education. They were helping their family by working had in the fields. Also families couldn’t afford to send their kids to school as many families were poor.

MODERN CANADA

There are two types of education in modern Canada: public education and private education. Public education is more common than private education and is payed for by the government. Private education is payed for separately and in private schools, there are less children in each class.

MODERN CANADA

In almost every province, it is essential to have at least 16 years of education. Most education programs in Canada start with kindergarden at age 5 and end with grade 12 at age 17 or 18.
