Job summary: This position performs a variety of tasks including placing, �nishing, protecting and repairing concrete.

Essential duties and responsibilities: • Placing concrete into forms or other surfaces according to grade and depth speci�cation. • Imparting desired �nish to concrete using either a hand trowel, long handled “bull �oat” or powered �oat. • Monitoring the wind, heat and cold as it a�ects the curing of the concrete. • Cutting joints/grooves in concrete with edging tools to help control cracking. • Applying hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces.

Responsibilities: • Understand, support, promote and lead all aspects of the company safety program, regulations, laws and codes; submit safety reports and hazard assessments as per OH & S legislation.• Organize and delegate crew/equipment for day-to-day tasks to optimize man hours worked. • Schedule daily construction activities through ensuring equipment and supplies, ordering of materials, and coordinating Quality Control testing.• Measure quantity of materials required and monitor yields and construction activities to minimize waste.• Hire, evaluate and develop employees.• Ensure job-site is clean and tidy, tools and vehicles are maintained, pre/post trip inspections completed, workers are dressed appropriately, wearing proper PPE and presenting a professional appearance. • Complete timesheets daily, measure and record daily production quantities, and complete daily Force Accounts as directed by Superintendent. • Communicate with inspectors, surveyors, and testers as required as well as the Superintendent to outline progress toward daily goals.

Requirements: • High school diploma plus 3 to 5 years of related experience.• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and speci�cations.• Knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and transportation of materials.• Strong leadership skills and a willingness to succeed and promote the Organization.• Extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures, union agreements and safety legislation.• Must be able to meet all safety requirements including pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol testing.•Ability to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.

It’s hard to say for sure why you are not getting any call backs. You might want to visit an Alberta Works Centre and talk to a Career and Employment Con-sultant about your job search.

Employers are a great source of wisdom when it comes to job search tips. I attended a recent employer job-search tips presentation and took some notes. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it seems like some job seekers are making the same mistakes over and over. You might �nd some of these tips helpful.

• Know what the company does, what positions they are trying to �ll, and what skills your target job needs. • Try to talk to someone who works in the �eld or for the company to get a better understanding of the job you are applying for.• Do your own research. Recruiters don’t want to �eld phone calls from your mom or your spouse—they want to talk to you.• Your resumé should make it clear what kind of position you are applying to.• Don't start with negatives in your resumé... e.g., "Although I don't have any relevant experience, I am a hard worker."• Drop o� your resume in person – it makes you stand out from the crowd.• Ask about money only when they ask you if you have any questions.• Networking is a fantastic, but underutilized job-search technique.• Volunteering is a great way to network and add valuable skills to your resume.• Joining professional associations is a great way to network.• Mentors can help you develop and �nd jobs.• Reach out to your friends and family – let them know what kind of job you are looking for.• Create a Linked In pro�le (virtual resumé) at www.linkedin.com. • Be ready to talk about your strengths and your weaknesses. Ensure your strengths relate to the job and be ready to explain how you are working on your weaknesses.• Be prepared for behavior-based interview questions. Look at the key required skills of the job have a great story to tell about when you have used those skills. • For video conference interviews, dress up, clean up your background area, eliminate noise and make sure no one else is home or walks behind you during the interview.
