Churchs answer, printed on September 21, 1897, was a masterpiece of decisiveness (Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus) and evasion (He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.) Churchs judgment that a thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood could also stand for his prose.Yes, Virginia.

The American centuryTen months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Henry Luce sought to rouse the readers ofLIFEmagazine from any lingering isolationism in a 6,600-word essay bearing that headline and rising to a distillation of Luces credo: Throughout the 17th Century and the 18th Century and the 19th Century, this continent teemed with manifold projects and magnificent purposes. Above them all and weaving them all together into the most exciting flag of all the world and of all history was the triumphal purpose of freedom. But Mr. Sisis error lies in declaring the Brotherhood a terrorist group and equating it with more violent ones such as IS and al-Qaeda. His crackdown may even lead some local groups to pledge allegiance to the IS in order to resist Mr. Sisi. This is in fact a strategy that IS has been deploying to destabilise other states as well.Egypt strikes back

And if some deadlines need to be moved and some agreements changed, it would not be the first time this happened in Brussels. However much the eurozone ministers may find it difficult to make concessions to a nation they perceive as profligate and ungrateful, they must come to grips with the fact that cutting Greece some slack now is the only good choice they have.ByTHE EDITORIAL BOARDFEB. 17, 2015

Pure internetThough it faces stiff competition from Facebook, Vine and Yahoo, YouTube retains something of the charming garage video aesthetic that made it so appealing it is still the go-to for any amateur would-be internet star. YouTube remains one of the most diverse and, consequently, interesting repositories of the stuff people do. The comments, notorious for insults, nonetheless capture the underside of the Web. Consider that YouTube has gone from elephant videos to interviewing the US president, and the extent of its cultural import and influence becomes clear.By:Express News Service|Posted: February 18, 2015 12:00 am
