INTRODUCTION

Several studies have reported relations between eating behavior with poor self-esteem, body image, peer and family relationship ( Riedan & Koff, 1997; Budderberg-Fisher et al., 1996; Grant & Fodor, 1988 )

Studies in Korea and Japan have reported poor eating habits and inappropriate dieting behavior among high school and university students (Kim,Kang & Kim, 1999; Nakamura et al., 1999).

PROBLEM STATEMENT

It is believed that if the students are practice bad eating habits, it will posed a major health issue and danger to them.

For example if they consume mal- nutritional food such as high consumption of fast food, these will cause negative health effect on their body.

To identify what is eating habits among of the Taylor’s College students.

To identify the factors that influencing the Taylor’s College student eating habits.

To determine what kind of awareness information that can help Taylor’s College student about bad eating habits.

LITERATURE REVIEWAdolescent. Development theory states that

a young person is shape by his or her environment, both the immediate environment of home, family, community and the wider environment created by the media, prevailing policy and cultural norm (WHO / UNFPA/ UNICEF study group, 1998).

Many adolescents got are suffering from health problems from as a result of the rapid psychological changes. They have become so idealized that being fat can handicap a person socially and severely damages self-esteem.

Youth and unhealthy eating habitFood and nutrition for youth Dietary recommendation is difficult to set for

adolescents because of the need allow for growth and development to progress at the same time. Daily energy requirement in youth age 15-19 years is 2200-3000 kcal.

The majority of the total energy intake should come from carbohydrate 50-60%, from protein 10-15%, and from fat 25-30%. Protein intake should be quality protein and two-third of the protein should be animal protein.

Contents of fast food and snack foodChildren and teenagers are eating more frequently,

getting a greater proportion of their nutrient intake from snack, eating more meal away from home and consuming more fast food (Crockett and Sims, 1995).

Fast food are quick, reasonable price and readily available alternative cooking, while convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast food a typically high in calories, fat, sugar and salt (Webners, 2003).

Con’tGenerally, junk food offer little in term of

protein, vitamins or minerals and lots of calories from sugar or fat. The term “empty calories” reflects the lack of nutrients (Webners, 2003).

Consequences of unhealthy eating habitsOne potential source of health problem is eating

habit of young people. Since in 1984, Blum studied the state of an adolescent health in Minnesota, found that 70 percent ate salty snacks or sweets everyday and one–third did so several times a day.

Overall underlying these trends has the great impact of shifting obesity and other consequences such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes mellitus problem in youth population.

population of 6.3 billion were overweight.

one billion overweight people about 22 million were children and teenagers.

Obese children are that an increase risk for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, respiratory disorder, orthopedic problem and psychological problems during the youth (LeBlanc, 2002).

atherosclerosis, imbalance in the rennin-angiogenesis system, and hyperinsulinemia, which increases sodium retention in the body and speeds atherosclerosis (Dwyer, 1995).

produce or respond to insulin, a hormone produced by the beta cell of the pancreas that is necessary for the use or storage of body fuels (Mahar and Kathleen L, 1996)

development of coronary heart disease are cholesterol, saturated fats and LDL in Japan, coronary artery prevalence has increased over the past decade, as have correlated risk factors such as blood cholesterol concentrations and obesity.

Autopsy studied in children showed that fatty arterial lesions begin early life: in one study all youth aged>11y had lipid deposits of various degrees in the aorta, in Spain, the increased incidence of cardiovascular disease (Sarah, 2000)

RESEARCH METHODOLOGYSample Selections and Size

The study is conducted at the Taylor’s College. The population for the study is the student in the Taylor’s College itself. All questionnaires will be distributed among the student. Interview also will be conducted among the student in Taylor’s College.

Data Gathering ProcessFor this research, the data gathering process is using the primary data source. The primary data source in this research will be collected through the following:

Through questionnaire that will be give to the student.

Through personal interview.
