Early Raiser Bee…a Bulgarian tale

Justification of this work

Whit this work we are going to show how is possible to translate this little and nice tale into games for our kids.

Through different Physical Education lessons, we are going to use these characters and their characteristics like insects they are, to do different games.

At first let´s introduce the tale for all of them and then, step by step, we will follow the same sequence established by this story to do the games.

FIRST GAME “Collecting pollen”

There will be two squads of bees. They should gather pollen (color balls) from flowers field and leave it in their apiary. They have to pick pollen (ball) one by one and they have to carry it in their empty baskets (Frisbee).

It is very important to collect as much pollen as they can, because is very important to keep it and make honey.

We are going to set some cones with sticks inside to create little bushes.

Material: Color balls, little Chinese cones, cones and sticks.

SECOND GAME “Keeping our pollen”

Now each bee squad should throw their pollen-balls into a particular apiary set in the center of the court. This will be the way to keep their honey to pass a tough winter.

Material: Color balls, sticks and wheels.

THIRD GAME “Helping a caterpillar”

In pairs, one bee and a “blind” caterpillar, should cross field full of obstacles, flowers, bushes, small brooks, puddles, etc. Bees have to guide blind caterpillar (these last wearing an eye shield) with indications like: right, left, forward and backward. If they find a mat, they have to do a somerset, if they find a wheel, they should step over, if they find a stick they should jump it.

Material: Eyes shield, cones, wheels, sticks and mats.

Fourth GAME “Hunting grasshoppers”

The characters will be two kids who want to hunt some grasshoppers. The rest of the students will become grasshoppers. The kids should hunt as many grasshoppers as they can. The grasshoppers could protect themselves jumping into a little holes (wheels) spread around the court. These, to continue playing have to sing a little sentence like this: Jumping a lot, jumping so much that I can fly!

To do more difficult this particular hunting we will set different material to create a field full of flowers (Chinese cones), cones and sticks (bushes), etc.

Material: Eyes shield, cones, wheels, sticks and mats.

Fifth GAME “Spider net”

There will be a squad of bees which have to cross a spider net set in the middle of the court. In this net there will be a spider which should catch every bee. When they have been caught , they will become spiders. The queen will hide its identity so when any bee will be caught, the spiders have to ask if they are the queen with this easy question: are you the queen bee? No I am not or Yes I am. If the answer is “yes” the game will finish with the victory of the spiders.

Material: Two cones and color balls like pollen.

Sixth GAME “Drawing butterflies”

This last game is focused to get calm at the end of our lesson. Using our skipping color ropes, Chinese color cones, sticks and other stuff, we are going to propose to make a big draw, around the whole court. We are going to “draw” a big butterfly and a bee surrounded with other smaller ones. It will be like a big mural.

Material: Ropes, sticks, Chinese cones, etc…
