Getting Started

Before using your handheld digital microscope (HDM), you first need to install the driver, software, and related files. This is a short and easy process.

First, put the Celestron Installation CD-ROM in your computer CD/DVD drive. Do not connect the USB cable of the microscope to the computer until after the driver is installed or your microscope will not work!

Note: Different versions of Microsoft Operating Systems (and even among the same systems) will show some variations in the screens you see during installation. Just follow the screen instructions and you should have no problems with the installation.

The InstallShield installation wizard window will open and say “Ready to Install the Program”.

Click “Install” and the installation will automatically install the driver and related files.

Before the installation is complete, it is possible that you will see this screen if using Windows XP. If so, click on “Continue Anyway” as the program for the HDM will not harm your computer.

When complete, the InstallShield window opens and says “InstallShield Wizard Complete” and you will then click “Finish”.

Next, connect the USB cable (which is attached to the digital microscope) to your computer. The LED illumination will automatically come on at the bottom of the microscope. At the bottom of your screen you will see a small pop-up that says “Found New Hardware” and “USB20Camera” and then “Envision V-Cam”.

A window will open that says “Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard”. This wizard helps you install the software for the digital microscope (AMCap).

The wizard will ask you to insert the installation CD. Leave the circle checked “install the software automatically” and then click “Next”.

A screen will come up noting “Please wait while the wizard searches…” (for the device) and this can take a few or several minutes to complete depending on your particular computer.

When the device is found, then a screen comes up saying “Please wait while the wizard installs the software…”

Note: You may on some computers now see a screen somewhat similar to the warning on page four. Just click on “Continue Anyway” as no harm will come to your computer.

Then a screen comes up “Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard” and it notes that the wizard has finished installing the software. It further states that the hardware installed will not work until you restart your computer. Click “Finish” to close the wizard. You can remove the installation CD from the CD/DVD drive as it is no longer needed.

A screen will come up asking you if you want to restart your computer. Make sure all open programs are closed and then click“Yes” to restart your computer.

Now you are ready to use your Celestron digital microscope.

Push “Click” on the top of the microscope. On most computers a screen will open up “Choose Application” and you have a choice of picking from various imaging applications you may have on your computer – Note: if you do not see this screen, please see the section below.

You can choose whichever imaging program you wish for video or snapshots. Once you have done this you can begin using your microscope.

If you choose AMCap (which was on the installation CD), the AMCap screen will open up and the green light on top of the HDM will come on indicating it is ready to use. Typically you will automatically be in the “preview” mode but if not, go to “options” and check “Preview”.

If you want to do video imaging, you should first set files, allocation of file space, etc. from the AMCap tool bar. Once settings are done you are ready to image. To begin (“start capture”) and end (“stop capture”) videos, you click “start capture” and “stop capture” from your keyboard and not from the “click” on the microscope. After you are done imaging you can view your video from the file location you set up.

AMCap is mainly a software program for taking videos but you can use AMCap for snapshot images but it is done one image at a time. In other words, you preview and focus the object you choose and then push “click” on the microscope and the image will be taken. Then, you need to save the image and when done you can take and save another image.

For imaging single shots (snapshots), it is better to use other imaging software. Normally some programs are included when you purchased your computer or you may have purchased specialized software imaging programs you can use. From “Choose Application” you can pick which program to use.

If you do not have any programs to choose from, there is another way to make snapshots easier on most computers. You can go to “Control Panel” and find “Scanners and Cameras”. You will see “Envision V-Cam” and double click on it.

The green light at the top of the HDM will come on indicating it is ready to use.

The screen will show “Welcome to the Scanner and Camera Wizard” and then click “Next”.

The wizard screen shows “Take and Select Pictures to Copy”.

The “Preview” mode will be on the left half of the screen and you can then focus sharply the object you want to image. When ready, push “click” on the microscope and the picture will show up under “Pictures” on the right half of the screen. Continue taking as many images as you want until done. Now you want to save the pictures to your computer files. First click “Next” and the screen allows you to “Choose Picture Name and Destination” and then click “Next”. You can select the images you want to save and then click “Next” and your pictures will be copied to your computer as you selected. The wizard will then give you “Other Options”. If you are done, check that option, and click “Next” and the screen will show “Completing the Scanner and Camera Wizard”, and click “Finish” to close the wizard.

Focusing and Taking Images

You can view and take images at powers of 20x or 400x. You should begin with viewing and imaging at 20x and then you can go to 400x. Turn the knurled knob completely to the left until it stops. Once you have the object you want to see, put the microscope over or on it and focus sharply. To focus, you rotate the knurled knob slightly to the right to find the sharpest focus position.

You can rotate the HDM to obtain the correct orientation you choose.

If you want to take an image, make sure you hold the HDM steady and then push the “click” button to take an image.

You can then look and/or take an image at 400x.. To do this, rotate the knurled knob to the right all the way until it stops. Then, rotate the knob slightly to the left until the object is sharply focused. Hold the HDM steady (this is a little more difficult than at 20x) and push the “click” button to take the image. For objects that you cannot put the HDM over or on, you can pick up the microscope and point it at an object up to a few feet away. To do this kind of viewing and or imaging you must hold the HDM as steady as possible. Results will come out best when you use 20x and the closer to the object the better.

Comment démarrer

Avant d’utiliser votre microscope numérique portable (HDM), vous devez installer au préalable le pilote, le logiciel, et les fichiers requis. Ce procédé est rapide et simple.

Tout d’abord, mettez le CD-ROM Celestron d’installation dans le lecteur CD/DVD de votre ordinateur. Ne branchez pas le câble USB du microscope à l’ordinateur avant d’avoir installé le pilote sur votre ordinateur ou le microscope ne fonctionnera pas.

Remarque : Les différentes versions des systèmes d’exploitation Microsoft (et les mêmes systèmes aussi, d’ailleurs) présenteront certaines variations au niveau des écrans s’affichant pendant l'installation. Il vous suffit simplement de suivre les instructions à l’écran pour éviter tout problème d’installation.

La fenêtre de l’assistant d’installation InstallShield s’ouvre avec le message « Ready to Install the Program » (Prêt à installer le programme).

Cliquez sur « Install » (Installer) et l'installation du pilote et des fichiers requis va s’effectuer automatiquement.

Avant la fin de l’installation, il est possible que vous voyiez cet écran si vous utilisez Windows XP. Si tel est le cas, cliquez sur « Continue Anyway » (Continuer de toute façon) étant donné que le programme du HDM n’affectera pas votre ordinateur.

Une fois terminé, la fenêtre InstallShield s’ouvre en indiquant « InstallShield Wizard Complete » (Assistant InstallShield terminé). Cliquez sur « Finish » (Terminé).

Ensuite, branchez le câble USB (qui est relié au microscope numérique) sur votre ordinateur. L’éclairage LED s’allumera automatiquement sur la partie inférieure du microscope. En bas de votre écran, vous verrez une petite fenêtre contextuelle indiquant « Found New Hardware » (Ajout de nouveau matériel détecté) et « USB20Camera », puis « Envision V-Cam ».

Une fenêtre s’affiche indiquant « Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard » (Assistant Ajout de nouveau matériel détecté). Cet assistant vous aidera à installer le logiciel du microscope numérique (AMCap).

L’assistant vous demandera ensuite d’insérer le CD d’installation. Laissez cochée l’option « Install the software automatically » (Installez le logiciel automatiquement) et cliquez sur « Next » (Suivant).

Un écran s’affiche indiquant « Please wait while the wizard searches…» (Veuillez patienter pendant que l’assistant recherche…) (le dispositif). Cette opération peut prendre plus ou moins longtemps selon votre type d’ordinateur.

Une fois le dispositif trouvé, le message « Please wait while the wizard installs the software… » (Veuillez patienter pendant que l’assistant installe le logiciel) s’affiche.

Remarque : Sur certains ordinateurs, un écran similaire à l’avertissement présenté en page 16 peut s’afficher. Il suffit de cliquer sur « Continue Anyway » (Continuer de toute façon) étant donné que cela ne présente aucun danger pour votre ordinateur.

Ensuite l’écran « Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard » (Fin de l’Assistant Ajout de nouveau matériel détecté) s’affiche et note que l'assistant a fini l’installation du logiciel. Le message indique également que le matériel installé ne fonctionnera pas tant que vous n’aurez pas redémarré votre ordinateur. Cliquez sur « Finish » (Terminer) pour fermer l’assistant. Vous pouvez retirer le CD d’installation du lecteur CD/DVD étant donné que vous n’en avez plus besoin.

Un écran vous demandant de redémarrer l’ordinateur s’affiche. Vérifiez que tous les programmes sont fermés et cliquez sur « Yes » (Oui) pour redémarrer votre ordinateur.

Vous êtes maintenant prêt à utiliser votre microscope numérique Celestron.

Appuyez sur le « Click » sur le dessus du microscope. Sur la plupart des ordinateurs, un écran « Choose Application » (Choisir une application) s’affiche et vous avez la possibilité de sélectionner différentes applications d’imagerie installées sur votre ordinateur – Remarque : si cet écran n’apparaît pas, veuillez passer à la section ci-dessous.

Vous pouvez choisir le programme d’imagerie que vous voulez pour vos vidéos ou vos instantanés. Ensuite, vous pouvez commencer à utiliser votre microscope.

Si vous sélectionnez AMCap (qui était sur le CD d’installation), l’écran AMCap s’affiche et la lumière verte sur le dessus du HDM s’allume, indiquant qu’il est maintenant opérationnel. Généralement, vous êtes automatiquement en mode « preview » (aperçu), mais dans le cas contraire, allez sous « options » et sélectionnez « Preview » (Aperçu).

Si vous souhaitez faire de l’imagerie vidéo, vous devez tout d’abord créer des fichiers et un emplacement pour ces fichiers, etc. à partir de la barre d’outils d’AMCap. Une fois les paramètres établis, vous êtes prêt à imager. Pour démarrer (« start capture ») (démarrer la capture) et finir (« stop capture ») (interrompre la capture) des vidéos, cliquez sur « start capture » et « stop capture » à partir de votre clavier et non sur le « click » du microscope. Une fois l’imagerie terminée, vous pouvez visionner votre vidéo depuis l’emplacement défini pour le fichier.

AMCap est essentiellement un programme conçu pour faire des vidéos, mais vous pouvez également l’utiliser pour des images fixes, sachant qu’il procède seulement une image à la fois. Autrement dit, vous prévisualisez l’objet voulu et faites la mise au point avant d’appuyer sur le « click » du microscope pour faire une photo. Ensuite, vous devez enregistrer l’image et, une fois terminé, vous pouvez prendre une autre photo et l’enregistrer à son tour.

Pour les prises uniques (instantanés), il est préférable d’utiliser un autre logiciel d’imagerie. Normalement, lorsque vous achetez votre ordinateur, celui-ci est équipé de certains programmes d’imagerie. Il est aussi possible que vous ayez acheté des logiciels d’imagerie spécialisés que vous pouvez également utiliser. Sous « Choose Application » (Choisir une application), sélectionnez le programme que vous souhaitez utiliser.

Si vous n'avez pas de programmes parmi lesquels choisir, il existe un autre moyen simple de traiter des instantanés sur la plupart des ordinateurs. Il suffit pour cela d’aller sous « Control Panel » (Panneau de configuration) et de sélectionner « Scanners and Cameras » (Scanneurs et appareils photo). Quand vous voyez « Envision V-Cam », faites un double-clic dessus.

Le mode « Preview » (Aperçu) sera situé dans la partie gauche de l’écran et vous pouvez ensuite faire une mise au point nette sur l’objet que vous souhaitez imager. Une fois prêt, cliquez sur le « click » du microscope et la photo apparaîtra sous « Pictures » (Images) dans la partie droite de l’écran. Continuez à prendre autant d'images que vous le souhaitez jusqu’à ce vous ayez fini. Vous pouvez maintenant enregistrer les images dans les fichiers de votre ordinateur. Tout d’abord, cliquez sur « Next » (Suivant). L’écran vous permet de choisir un nom et une destination pour cette image (« Choose Picture Name and Destination »). Cliquez à nouveau sur « Next » (Suivant). Vous pouvez sélectionner les images que vous souhaitez enregistrer, puis cliquez sur « Next » (Suivant) et vos images seront copiées sur votre ordinateur telles vous les avez sélectionnées. L’assistant vous offrira ensuite d’autres options (« Other Options »). Lorsque vous avez terminé, cochez cette option, puis cliquez sur « Next » (Suivant). L’écran indiquera alors « Completing the Scanner and Camera Wizard » (Fin de l'assistant Scanneur et Appareil photo), puis cliquez sur « Finish » (Terminé) pour refermer l'assistant.

Mise au point et photographie

Vous pouvez observer et photographier à des puissances de grossissement de 20x ou 400x. Vous devriez commencer par observer et photographier à 20x avant de passer à 400x. Tournez le bouton moleté complètement sur la gauche jusqu’en bout de course. Une fois que vous avez l’objet que vous souhaitez observer, mettez le microscope dessus et faites une mise au point précise. Pour faire la mise au point, tournez le bouton moleté légèrement sur la droite jusqu’à trouver la position de mise au point la plus nette.

Vous pouvez tourner le HDM afin d'obtenir l’orientation voulue.

Si vous voulez prendre une photo, veillez à maintenir fermement le HDM avant d’appuyer sur le bouton « click » pour prendre la photo.

Vous pouvez observer et/ou faire des photos à des puissances de 400x. Pour cela, tournez le bouton moleté légèrement sur la droite jusqu’en bout de course. Ensuite, tournez légèrement ce bouton sur la gauche jusqu’à ce que l’objet soit parfaitement net. Tenez le HDM sans bouger (c’est un peu plus difficile qu'à 20x), puis appuyez sur le bouton « click » pour prendre la photo. Dans le cas d’objets au-dessus desquels vous ne pouvez pas placer le HDM, vous pouvez prendre le microscope et le pointer sur un objet à quelques pieds de distance. Pour effectuer ce genre d’observation ou de photographie, vous devez maintenir le HDM le plus stable possible. Les résultats seront de meilleure qualité si vous utilisez le 20x en étant aussi près que possible de l'objet.

Erste Schritte

Vor der Verwendung Ihres digitalen Handmikroskops (HDM) müssen Sie zuerst den Treiber, die Software und zugehörige Dateien installieren. Das geht ganz schnell und einfach.

Legen Sie zuerst die Celestron-Installations-CD-ROM in das CD/DVD-Laufwerk Ihres Computers. Schließen Sie das USB-Kabel des Mikroskops erst dann am Computer an, wenn der Treiber installiert ist, sonst funktioniert Ihr Mikroskop nicht!

Hinweis: Bei den verschiedenen (und sogar gleichen) Versionen der Betriebssysteme von Microsoft können etwas abweichende Bildschirme während des Installationsprozesses erscheinen. Befolgen Sie einfach die Anweisungen auf dem Bildschirm. Es dürften keine Probleme bei der Installation auftreten.

Das Fenster des InstallShield-Installationsassistenten erscheint und teilt Ihnen mit, dass er zur Installation des Programms bereit ist.

Klicken Sie auf „Install“ (Installieren). Nun werden Treiber und zugehörige Dateien installiert.

Vor Abschluss der Installation kann dieser Bildschirm erscheinen, wenn Sie Windows XP verwenden. Ist das der Fall, klicken Sie auf „Continue anyway“ (Trotzdem fortfahren), denn das HDM-Programm kann keinen Schaden an Ihrem Computer anrichten.

Bei Abschluss wird das InstallShield-Fenster geöffnet, das den Abschluss der Installation durch den InstallShield-Assistenten bestätigt. Hier klicken Sie auf „Finish“ (Fertig stellen).

Als Nächstes schließen Sie das USB-Kabel (das am digitalen Mikroskop angeschlossen ist) an Ihrem Computer an. Die LED-Beleuchtung unten am Mikroskop leuchtet automatisch auf. Unten am Bildschirm wird durch eine kleine Popup-Meldung diese neue Hardware angekündigt: „Found New Hardware“ (Neue Hardware gefunden), „USB20Camera“ (USB20-Kamera) unddann „Envision V-Cam“.

Im Fenster, das nun geöffnet wird, werden Sie vom Assistenten für neue Hardware begrüßt („Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard“). Dieser Assistent hilft Ihnen, die Software für das digitale Mikroskop (AMCap) zu installieren.

Der Assistent fordert Sie zum Einlegen der Installations-CD auf. Lassen Sie die Optionsschaltfläche „Install the software automatically“ (Software automatisch installieren) markiert und klicken Sie auf „Next“ (Weiter).

Der nun geöffnete Bildschirm fordert Sie auf zu warten, während der Assistent das Gerät sucht. Das kann je nach Ihrem Computer ein paar Minuten oder länger dauern.

Wenn das Gerät gefunden wurde, teilt ein Bildschirm mit: „Please wait while the wizard installs the software…“ (Bitte warten, während der Assistent die Software installiert...)

Hinweis: Auf manchen Computern ist nun ein Bildschirm ähnlich der Warnung auf Seite 28 zu sehen. Klicken Sie auf „Continue Anyway“ (Trotzdem fortfahren), denn es wird kein Schaden an Ihrem Computer angerichtet.

Der nun folgende Bildschirm „Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard“ (Assistent für neue Hardware wird abgeschlossen) bestätigt die beendete Installation der Software durch den Assistenten. Es wird auch gemeldet, dass die Hardware erst nach einem Neustart des Computers funktionieren wird. Klicken Sie auf „Finish“ (Fertig stellen), um den Assistenten zu schließen. Nun können Sie die Installations-CD aus dem CD/DVD-Laufwerk nehmen, denn sie wird nicht mehr gebraucht.

Sie können Bilder mit 20x oder 400x Vergrößerung betrachten und aufnehmen. Es wird empfohlen, zu Beginn die Bilder mit 20x zu betrachten und aufzunehmen. Sie können dann zu 400x wechseln. Drehen Sie den Rändelknopf vollständig nach links bis zum Anschlag. Sobald Sie das gewünschte Objekt erfasst haben, stellen Sie das Mikroskop darüber und stellen das Objekt scharf ein. Cómo iniciar

Antes de utilizar su microscopio digital portátil (HDM) primero tendrá que instalar el controlador, software y los archivos apropiados. Esto es un proceso corto y fácil.

Primero, ponga el CD-ROM de instalación de Celestron en la unidad de disco CD/DVD de su ordenador. No conecte el cable USB del microscopio al ordenador hasta después de haber instalado el controlador; si lo conecta antes su microscopio no funcionará.

Nota: Diferentes versiones del sistema operativo de Microsoft (e incluso entre los del mismo sistema) mostrarán algunas diferencias en las pantallas que verá durante la instalación. Simplemente siga las instrucciones en la pantalla y no tendrá ningún problema con la instalación.

Haga “clic” en la parte superior del microscopio. Si elige AMCap (incluida en el CD de instalación), aparecerá la pantalla de la aplicación AMCap y la luz verde de la parte superior del HDM se encenderá para indicar que puede usar el microscopio. Para tomar una sola foto, es mejor utilizar otro software de reproducción de imágenes. Normalmente en algunos programas vienen incluidos cuando compra un ordenador o es posible que haya comprado programas especializados de reproducción de imágenes que pueda utilizar. Desde “Choose Application” (elegir aplicación) elija el programa que desee utilizar.

Si no tiene ningún programa a elegir, hay otra forma más fácil de tomar fotos en la mayoría de los ordenadores. Puede ir al “Panel de control” y buscar “Escáner y cámaras”. Verá entonces “Envision V-Cam”; haga doble clic ahí.

Cómo enfocar y tomar imágenes

Cuando no pueda poner el HDM encima del objeto que quiera fotografiar, eleve y apunte el microscopio hacia el objeto desde una distancia limitada. Para hacer este tipo de visualización o de tomar imágenes deberá sujetar el HDM tan firmemente como sea posible. Los resultados serán mejores con 20x y a una corta distancia del objeto.
