What is an e-book?

E-book:A book-length publication, including text and/or images, in digital form that can be read on a number of electronic devices.

Common e-book types

● Portable Document Format (PDF):An ubiquitous type of file that can be read on almost any electronic device. Formatting and layout looks identical no matter the device.

● EPUB:The international standard type of e-book. EPUB ebooks can be easily reformatted for different sized screens, with different fonts and font sizes, etc.

● Amazon e-book format:Similar to EPUB files, but they are only used on Amazon Kindle devices.

Advantages: easier to read, last a long time on a single charge, minimize eye fatigue

Disadvantages: black and white only, can't be read in dark places, usually single-purpose

E Ink = Etch A Sketch

LCD (backlit) readers, aka Tablets

Kindle FireiPad

Nexus 7

Advantages: full color, can be read almost anywhere, serve multiple functions

Disadvantages: energy-intensive, may cause more eye strain

Using Library2Go on atablet or mobile device

1) Download OverDrive

Open your device's application store

Search for “Overdrive ”

Install the application

2) Open the app

Find OverDrive inyour list of apps

The app will open!Sign up for an account now.

Touch the icon

3) Sign up for an account

Signup for an OverDrive account. You only have to do this once. You'll need to check

your email to confirm the account.

4) Add Library2Go to your libraries

Click theicon to add a library

Search for yourlibrary by zip code

Touch to star toadd Library2Go

Select HRCLD

5) Login to Library2Go

Go to Library2Goand click “Sign in”

Login using yourlibrary card number

and password(default: last 4 digits of your phone)

Select LEO Listensfrom the list of libraries

6) Browse Library2Go ...

The home screenshows available titles

Touching an item lets you borrow it or find

out more info

More info shows excerpts, reviews, etc.

... or search for specific titles/subjects

Touch the“Search” button

Either search for a specific

title/author or ...

Browse for titles viathe Advanced search

View your results

7) Check out your item(s)

Download the book in your desired

formatTouch the OverDrive icon in the top corner

to get back to the main screen

Touch a title, then touch “Borrow” to

check it out

8) Find and read your book!

Go to your Bookshelf
