Goals – The key to your freedom

How often have your heard or read something about setting goals—the importance of setting goals, identifying goals, or writing down your

goals? A great many people may intellectually understand the

necessity of setting goals, yet have not taken the time to do so.

When you fail to set goals, life has a way of just happening. By setting realistic, achievable goals, you are charting a course for your future.

The paradox of this is that often we do have to simply let life unfold.

But as you will see, goal setting is a process by which you envision what you want and then let go of the outcome.

Goals are the dreams and desires we have.

Setting goals

Setting goals is probably one of the most important things you can do

for yourself. Without goals people seem to drift through life. If that’s

what someone wants, great. Yet, I seriously doubt this applies to you. Otherwise you would not have invested your time and money in this

Goals provide you with a map for your life. You are taking control of the things over which you have control. Many people were not taught

to set goals. If you were not taught the importance of setting goals, there is a good chance you may not place much emphasis on them.

too attached to the outcomes of a goal. Often life has more to offer us than we ever dreamed possible. By not being attached to the

outcome of a particular goal, we may receive more than we originally set out after.

Core Values

Understanding (and honoring) your values is essential to setting goals

that will work for you. Your values are what drive you. A value is a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful and important to

who you are.

Your values can range from the obvious like honesty, integrity, hard work and loyalty to those that are not as apparent. Everyone has core

values. Some people are aware of it. Others are not.

Some of your values are inherited. You learn them from parents,

siblings, ministers, and other person of influence in your life.

You also get some of your values from celebrities, shows you watch, the media, and your life experiences.

Values can last a lifetime, but your life experiences can have a major impact on a shift in your values.

When you identify your values you tend to make much better choices

One of the most important steps to take prior to setting goals is to define what success means to you. Be careful not to base your

definition on what others say success is, but rather what it means solely to you.

Set a Timeframe

A goal without a deadline is a great way to set yourself up for never achieving your outcome. You must set a realistic deadline but one that

A huge part of achieving what you want is to take consistent steps.

You must be committed to doing something on a regular basis to move

closer each day to what you want.

Visualize what you want

In order to obtain your goals, you must first see yourself in possession of whatever it is you desire, whether it be tangible or intangible. You

must believe whatever you desire is possible and then see yourself obtaining your goal.

Visualize the person you would like to become on all levels. You will

achieve great benefit by tying your vision into your values:

1. What do you look like?

2. What do you sound like?

3. What kind of business do you have?

4. How are people responding to your expertise and knowledge?

5. What kind of relationships with family and friends do you have?

6. What are you contributing to society?



Control what you can and let go of what you can’t

To achieve success you must know what you can and can’t control. The sooner we realize what is within our control the easier it is to

move forward on what we value and define as success.

Not everyone is going to support you in your journey of becoming an information product expert. You cannot control how people feel about

what you are doing or what their views about online marketing are. What you can control is your own views, beliefs and actions.

Release the need to control

In admitting we have no control over other people, places or things, we actually gain more control over ourselves. The only control we

really have over people, places and things is the way in which we respond to them. When we quit trying to fix what is impossible to fix,

we reduce our stress and potential frustration. Trying to control others is like trying to control the weather or the seasons. It can’t be done.

Be Persistence

One of the greatest keys in accomplishing what we want is to be

committed to our goals and dreams. Countless individuals give up if they don’t accomplish what they want immediately.

Most things worth having are not necessarily accomplished in one easy

step. The more persistent we are the more likely we are to accomplish

what we want.

Let Go of the Outcome

One of the most powerful, yet most challenging things to do is let go of the outcome. The temptation is to set a goal, do the footwork and

then hold on to how you think everything should turn out.

By letting go of the exact outcome you actually open yourself up for something better than what you first intended.

It’s definitely a discipline to stay in the space of letting go, but I can

assure you, the results will amaze you. As long as you are taking consistent action, visualizing what you want, being persistent and

staying motivated, all will work out.



Stay motivated

There will be times it may be difficult to stay committed and motivated. This is when most people give up on their dreams and

desires.

Think of times you have been very motivated to accomplish something. Whatever it was you were doing, this is a formula you can

apply to your current situation.

Reward yourself

When you reach minor, or major, milestones in your life, it is

important to acknowledge them and reward yourself. Often people will wait for others to acknowledge or reward them for a job well done.
