  • The ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories included within this catalogue are manufactured in

accordance with the British, Europeanand International standards BS EN545,BS EN598 and ISO2531 which specifythe requirements and test methods

applicable for the construction of ductile iron pipelines:

BS EN545 To convey water (e.g. potable water) With or without pressure To be installed below or above ground

BS EN598 To convey surface water, domestic waste water and certain types of industrial effluents, either in separate systems or in combined systems

Operating without pressure (gravity sewerage), or with positive or negative pressure

To be installed below or above ground

ISO 2531 Applicable to pipes, fittings and accessories for pressure pipelines for water, other liquids or gas applications

This catalogue is intended to give engineers, consultants, buyers and contractors a comprehensive view of our products and their recommended applications.

Push-fit (flexible) joints are the standard below ground joints used for conveying water.

Standard push-fit (flexible) requirementsIn addition to normal anchorage precautions the joint is capable of: withstanding ground movement and settlement withstanding high operating pressures minimising the requirement for imported imbedment due to high stiffness

coping with poor load bearing or unstable ground being laid in narrow trenches being laid easily, with no special equipment required

    This table givesdetails on the

NB. Unrestrained push-fit (flexible) pipes may require anchorage due to hydraulic thrust along a pipeline such aschanges in direction or reduction in diameter, laying in highslopes, unstable ground and at blank ends.

Push-fit with self anchoring (end restraint) jointsAll pipeline systems that carry fluids under pressureare subject to: severe stresses hydraulic surges that appear at changes in direction reductions in diameter depth of cover height of water table topography native soils pipe orientation width of trench pipe diameter

    Push-fit (flexible) mechanicalanchor (MR) joint

Under pressure the joint will try topull apart. This will cause the steelteeth to grip the spigot of the pipepreventing the joint from separating.

The principle of anchoring joints is to reduce the potential for the joint to separate. Sigma Pipeline Solutions offer two types of end restraint which aredependent on pressure and installation conditions:

A flanged joint is standard for aboveground applications and also for fittingancillary products such as valves andhydrants below ground.

It is recommended that flanged jointsare not buried wherever possible.

There are two types of flanged joint:

Dependent upon the working pressure of the pipeline, flanges are drilled to BS EN1092-2, PN10, 16, 25 and 40. PN16 is the standard drilling in the UK.
