Fire-extinguishing pipesfrom TRM – flexible and safe solutions

Fire-extinguishing pipes – PrinciplesA fire-extinguishing system is a technical system which is constantly on standby and which tackles afire with an extinguishing agent. It is used for protecting and saving human lives. Wherever human lives have to be protected, redundancy, safety and reserves are a must. A fire-extinguishingpipe must be able to function reliably in a serious situation.

Ductile iron pipe systems from TRM with their large safety reserves and VRS®-T-connection offer this100% solution through:

„Wherever human lives have to be protected, redundancy, safety

and reserves are a must.“

1. Operational reliability:Compared to other materials, cast iron pipes from TRM offer unique mechanical capabilities andreserves and therefore can withstand pressure surges and possible unforeseen influences over a long lifetime.

2. Non-flammable pipeline material:TRM ductile iron pipes can withstand 900°C of heat for 60 minutes. The outstanding product quality is regularly checked and certified by recognised bodies (forinstance ISO 9001, FM Approvals, MA39).

3. VRS®-T: Simple. Fast. Force-locking. Safe.A robust pipe system is created by the most simple locking mechanism which allows for a very short time for installation. In addition, TRM offers a unique, flexible range of fittings and solutions for details like offsets, connections to hydrants, changes of direction, branches, etc.

In order to ensure that the safety reserves ofthe ductile iron pipe are met by the entire pipesystem, operators rely on the restraint VRS®-T-connection. In this way, individual pipes are connected to form one system – without theneed for time-consuming welding, testing, later surface treatment or problems duringloosening and adaptation of connections. Thesimple installation process doesn't just savetime; in most cases it can be carried out by theconstruction firms themselves. The pipes can be bent up to 5° at the joints. Thismeans that, with a resulting curve radius of 57 m, the ductile iron pipe can be adapted

to follow the direction of the road, bridge or tunnel, and savings can be made on fittings. Furthermore, the system allows building tolerances to be compensated for.

Detailed information for planning can be foundin our ductile iron pipe systems manual that can be downloaded at: www.trm.at.

The fire-extinguishing pipe delivers the extinguishing water to the tapping points. The pipe often has to beadapted to account for local conditions along this route, whereby the pipe is generally exposed to the largestforces and external influences at those points. Furthermore, pipes are frequently shortened at those pointsand, nevertheless, have to be connected reliably.TRM offers a pipe system for these situations with unique, secure components to support any suchadaptations. Moreover, we will provide assistance right from the planning stage with solutions geared towardssimplifying the installation process and guaranteeing optimum safety.

A pipe system is much more than just pipesand fittings. In a comparison between different makes, developers assess the possibility for adaptation to local conditions and requirements,in particular. TRM staff work directly with planners, construction firms and customers on site and solve problems here even before they occur. They rely on many years of experience in this industry and additional technical experts at our site in Hall in Tirol during all phases of the project, from planning to commissioning. This creates the real economic value that goes beyond euros per meter. TRM integrates the fire-extinguishing pipes and other equipment or components. If necessary, TRM will clarity the boundary conditions, co-ordinate workwith other contractors and include

valves or hydrants. This service is becoming increasingly important for customers, especially where liability issues are concerned. After all, who can guarantee the reliability of the overall pipe system if many single components are bought from various traders instead of from one OEM? Who is reliable if intermediate traders were chosen when the pipeline was contracted? Do project owners have the professionalism and strength necessary to enforce claims for damages against a major foreign corporation? If additional goods are found to be necessary during construction, will they actually be able to be supplied on time? Developers and firms installing extinguishing pipe systems are already considering this today and are opting for real solutions – made by TRM, made in Austria.
