ELEMENTS OF THE SYSTEM: CONTAINER- Waste containers are fitted with RFID tags- Collection trucks are fitted with RFID readers with GSM modules- Tags are activated when in proximity to truck receivers- Readers record exact location and time of container pick-up / cleaning- Information is sent over cellular network to the City of Cape Town- Linked to data coming in from WasteWorks SMS network- Generated data feeds municipal report generation and external Microsite- Facilitates monitoring of contractor; transparency and accountabilityDESIGN STORMING: WASTE / GROUP 3 / 20 AUGUST 2012 18. OPERATION EXAMPLE:-The City checks records of missed collections according to the contractoragreements, the RFID system and the complaint network.- They take the following actions: Follow up with non-compliant contractors Put energy into problem areas and issues identified through the community network Sends feedback to the community via the chosen pathway i.e. an sms to the node operator Outcome and follow-up logged Recurrent problem areas are dealt with accordinglyDESIGN STORMING: WASTE / GROUP 3 / 20 AUGUST 2012 21.
