Tips & Techniques:Float / Shade: I always fl oat my color with the angular shaders. Mop to soften with a Mop. I shade around my design elements before basecoating; I like the softer look I get when I do this. Unless other wise indicated, I shade around the entire shape and deepen in corners and under design ele-ments for more depth.Line: Unless otherwise stated, all lining is done with the #10/0 Liner and the paint watered down to an ink-like consistency.DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics: DecoArt Matte Medium:Gelatos: Apply the color as if you were coloring with a crayon. Rub with fi nger tips to blend. For video tutorials, please visit http://www.fabercastell.com/design-memory-craft-us/video-gallery1

Preparation:Note: Refer to the color photo for shading and detail placement.Basecoat the entire surface with Gesso. Let dry. Gently sand.Tear the papers into assorted sizes.Adhere the papers to the surface with DecoArt Media Matte Medium. Overlap to create texture. Let dry.

Basecoat with a thin coat of Gesso to tone down the pattern and this will also allow the Gelato’s to be brighter. Let dry.

Color the background now with patches of Gelato colors. Pretend you are scribbling with crayons … yes … scribbling. You just want to get some color on the surface, you are not going to create a solid patch of color. Revert to your 3-year-old self.

Once you have the colors on the background, you are going to use your fi nger to blend the colors.

Dip your fi nger in water and tap the paper towel to remove the water, you only want a damp fi nger. Start with one color at a time and gently rub the gelatos to spread the color. I keep a paper towel in my other hand to wipe of my fi nger each time I dip it in the water. Once you have all the patches of color blended, you can start to blend them together where they meet.

Add more of your favorite colors as desired. The gelato package does not show the color names on the crayons.

For the background, I used all the colors except the Red, Green and Gold and White. The fun part is that you can use less or more depending on what your favorite colors are.

Once you are happy with your background color; you will need to seal it with DecoArt Matte Sealer 2

Finishing Spray. The Gelatos will continue to react with any moisture so this will allow you to con-tinue with the next layers of the project.

This will also stop the Gelatos from feeling waxy and the background will feel hard and dry.

*Note: You can do this at any time when you are happy with the colors. You can continue to add more gelatos at any time.

Trace on the pattern.

Basecoat the Vase with Gesso.

Stencil the background using the DecoArt “Inspiration” stencil and DecoArt Media Paynes Grey.
