-Make sure any external computer speakers are plugged in to the headphone or speaker jack on your computer, plugged into a power source and turned on

-Make sure your computer audio settings are not set to mute. Click on the picture of a speaker on the lower right-hand corner of your screen to check this setting.

-Click on Session on the menu bar above, and choose Connection Speed. Choose a slower speed for your connection (higher on the list = slower)

Arrive promptly at the scheduled time of the session. All WB & Mic privileges will be assigned at the discretion of the teacher. Chat Box conversations should be limited to the content of the lesson. No sharing of personal information (phone numbers, emails, address,

etc.) Respectful and courteous behavior towards others is expected at all

times. Stepping away /non participation without the teacher’s approval will be

seen as an absence from the session. Students & parents are expected to follow all classroom protocol as

described. Any disruptions to learning during class connect sessions , including the

use of inappropriate language, posting pictures or images to whiteboard, disrespect of teachers or other students will not be tolerated. If a disruption occurs student (s) will be placed in a breakout room for reflection and/or removed from class connect session and parents contacted.

Art display!

Calling all artists: would you like to have some of your artwork displayed in the GCA student council newsletter? One of your fellow artists Landi Abercrombie has asked if any of you would like to show off your art. If you would like to take part in this submit the work to me via Kmail and I will forward it to Landi.

Assignment 8 Negative Space Drawing• Positive / negative drawing

For assignment 8 we will create a positive negative drawing using only contour lines and one color pencil. To create this drawing you will need to find an interesting object which you can draw for multiple days while it remains untouched.

• You will then create a drawing using only the contour line to help define the positive and negative spaces. The positive space in a work of art is the space taken by the subject or subjects.

• The negative space is the area around the subject. Both negative and positive spaces are equally important to consider when creating a piece of art.

In this assignment you will draw the object then color in the negative space leaving the positive area blank.

Assignment 9 • Vantage point architectural drawings! Okay so you are really going to

like this assignment (maybe). • Brief description of the assignment- You are going to create a

drawing of at least three, four inch buildings. Each should have a door and a window. You should include as much details as possible. Once you have completed the geometric shapes, add some organic trees and objects.

• In this drawing every geometric line is drawn with a ruler and to one of each vanishing point.

• Materials needed- sketchbook, drawing pad, pencil, eraser, and your ruler.

• Watch the recorded video, posted on the wiki page, on how to do a proper vantage point drawing.

Assignment 9• Okay, so here is how its done: We are going to do a

practice one first in your sketchbook.• Step one create a vanishing line (aka horizon line). Do

this by drawing a straight line across the page, somewhere in the middle to upper third of the page.

Assignment 9• Step two: Place two vanishing points at each

end of the line.• Step three: Draw a vertical line using your

ruler somewhere below your vanishing line. The line should at least three inches. Place two points at the top and bottom of the line.

• Step four: Draw two diagonal lines from the bottom of the vertical line to each vanishing point on the horizon line. One line in each direction.

• Step five: Draw another two diagonal lines from the top of the vertical line to each of the vanishing points. This will create the front two walls of your first building.

• Step six- Now draw two additional vertical lines along the bottom diagonal lines. One of each direction to the top diagonal lines. Place points on the top of these lines.

• Step seven: Now we are going to put the top on our building. This is a bit tricky but too bad. Follow this closely. You are to draw two lines from the top of each newly drawn vertical lines to the OPPOSITE vanishing point.

• Step eight: Now you have your building base. For step eight you need to start on your next building. Draw a new vertical line somewhere outside of first building but along your bottom diagonal lines. You can use the other diagonal lines or draw the vertical line pass those to create a tall new building. Follow the earlier steps to finish the new building. Once you have finished your three buildings erase the lines you don’t need.

• Once you have drawn at least three buildings you can start drawing building details. This is the fun part. Add details like doors and windows, maybe signs or interior details from a window. Your imagination is the only limit. Remember every geometric line (not organic) goes to one of the vanishing points.
