CoverThe masthead is the largest single section of the cover other than the main image and is also the boldest. The masthead is all capitalised as is the rest of the font on the cover as to give a more simple and stylish design. There is also a black line under the masthead underlining it and showing that it is important and bringing attention to it. It also allows for some slight variety of images.

The puff on the cover advertises a 2017 calendar, this is because this is the first issue of the new year helping to interest a wider audience into buying this issue of the magazine. The puff is red with white text bringing attention to it and making the text easy to read.

All of the text is capitalised on the cover and is also mainly bold. This makes it easy to read and keeps the cover simple and more minimal fitting with the style of the indie-rock genre. The text of the cover lines and masthead are all red as this is the most important information and the red colour is kept across the entire magazine.

The barcode and edition are kept in the lower left hand corner and are very small and do not feature any red. This is to avoid taking away from the more important information. The cost is red as this is important to show the magazine is not too expensive to interest the audience.

The main image will feature a man playing guitar in a denim jacket to, help fit the genre. The image is the largest part of the magazine cover and is only slightly obscured by the cover lines. The main image is important so your eyes are drawn to it and then you next see the cover lines which slightly obscure the image but do not distract too much.

The main cover line is to the left of the man in the main images head, making it easy to see what cover line is connected to the main image.

The background is white to give the magazine a clean look. This creates a border for the magazine issue making the other colours stand out more.

The bottom line, here is what will be included in the magazine. It is in a black box to make it easily readable but not too overly interesting, as to not distract from the important cover lines and the main photo.

Contents

The masthead is featured here to create some synergy throughout the magazine. It is used twice, in either side of the image.

The editor’s note features on the bottom right hand corner in a box made to look like lined paper. Here I will use a font to make the writing look hand written. This will give the magazine a more personal touch showing that it is written by a real person.

The title along the top is large and bold to make it clear that this is the contents page. Again most of the font is capitalised to show its importance.

There are black borders and lines to make the images and titles strand out more. This will draw attention from the audience. The listings of articles are in black and will not be capitalised.

Two images are featured on the contents page referring to different articles. This will feature a drummer and singer to make it different to the cover images.

There will also be a quote from the double page spread to show its importance. This will also help to show an interesting part of the article.

Double page spread

The main image on the left hand page will feature the two members of the band playing their instruments. The title is featured on the top left in bold red font. There is also a quote over the main image to also indicate what the article will be about. Across the drafts the colour scheme has stayed the same. The caption is featured in the bottom left corner and is out of the way, as to not distract. Both models will be white and wearing ordinary clothes fitting with the indie-rock genre. It takes up the majority of the left page. One member will wear a denim jacket.

The right page features a close up of the two of them separately fitting with that Beatles/ Blur picture look, something that fans of the genre will recognise. To the left of the images will be a small introduction to the article to make it clear what the article will be about.

There is another quote breaking up the sections with thick black lines, this creates a more minimalist design. This adds some interest to the blocks of text separating them and making it clearer to read.

Here is the article featuring a new interview with the band exclusive to the magazine about their plans for the New Year.

Here there is the album artwork with an album review. This will be boxed out to show this is a different section.

Overall the magazine will be made to look a bit older as to not come across as trying to be cool or relevant. There are few colours as to keep a more stylish design and not be too distracting from the actual content and photos. The colours will not be too over the top as the genre features more subtle colours.
