Farmer has raised ash gourd crop with less inputs in prevailing water shortage conditions under drip irrigation system. He invested Rs.30,000 in 5 acres land & achieved a gross profit of Rs. 3,00,000 in a span of 75 days. The crop was sown in the month of May and harvested in the month of August. Significant Findings Watermelon as successive crop after muskmelon as off season crop during May- July has yielded good returns under mulching, drip irri-gation with fertigation. Packages of practices followed: • After muskmelon crop is completed Glyphosate was sprayed on the left over vegetative growth of muskmelon. • After 10 days dried vines and other dried weeds are removed. • Plants started flowering 27 days after sowing. • Regular need based plant protection measures were taken in the crop period. • Micronutrient solution was applied through drip @ of 1 lt per acre after one month after planting. • Fruits were ready for harvest after 59 days of sowing. It was observed that the off season crop (May sown crop) came to harvest 10 days earlier than the regular crop (January sown crop). The average fruit weight recorded was 6.5 kg in Yamuna and 3 kg in Anmol. The fruits were sold at the rate of Rs.5.5 per kg.
