EDITORIAL

Dr Carson: New associate editor

The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology ispleased to announce the appointment of Dr Sandra AnnCarson as Associate Editor. The Journal will be en-riched by her extensive experience as clinician, scienceteacher, and editor.

Dr Carson is presently professor of Obstetrics andGynecology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston,Texas. She received her undergraduate and medical ed-ucation at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois,and completed her residency training in Obstetrics andGynecology at Northwestern University. She nextjoined the faculty at the University of Chicago, whereshe had completed her fellowship in Reproductive En-docrinology and Infertility. She then moved to the Uni-versity of Tennessee as associate professor and served asdirector of the IVF program until 1994, when she joinedthe faculty at Baylor.

Dr Carson has been active in clinical services and re-search, as well as in professional organizations. Her re-search has been supported by the National Institutes ofHealth for the past 15 years. She has published morethan 130 articles and book chapters on topics in repro-ductive medicine. She has served for many years as

reviewer for numerous scientific journals, including TheAmerican Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She hasbeen rated as a top reviewer by our own journal, as wellas others. Her editorial experiences include Editor-in-Chief of ASRM News and Fertility News, Associate Ed-itor of ACOG Current Journal Review, and Editor-in-Chief of Journal Watch for Women’s Health.

Dr Carson’s unselfish and dedicated service to nu-merous professional organizations, national and inter-national, has earned her the highest respect of hercolleagues. She is the immediate past president of theAmerican Society of Reproductive Medicine. She hasalso served as Examiner for the American Board of Ob-stetrics and Gynecology since 1991.

At a time when we are facing new challenges to var-ious issues related to women’s health care and scientificcommunication, the appointment of Dr Carson as ournew Associate Editor is timely, and brings great excite-ment and distinction to The American Journal of Obstet-rics and Gynecology.
