Downtown Options Pop-Up§ The Downtown Plan Options Pop-Up

was held on August 29th 2019 at the Downtown Farmer’s Market on Fourth Street.

§ The Pop-Up had display boards ofeach of the four Downtown sub-areas, with graphics and a list of key design ideas for each sub-area.

§ Passers-by were invited to place a colored dot for each idea to indicate their opinions.

§ Participants could also use ‘post-it’ notes to contribute ideas and thoughts on the designs.

Ritter Street is closed to create a newdevelopment site and provide a more directconnection from the BioMarin Campus toDowntown

4th Street is redesigned so that bikes,pedestrians, cars, and buses all share the right-of-way.

A new plaza at the SMART station featurespublic art, landscaping, water features, placesto sit, and a direct connection to 4th Street.

The historic Whistlestop building is preservedand restored

Mid-rise housing above ground-level retail.restaurants, and services create a newdestination around the San Rafael SMARTstation

An urban wetland south of Mahon Creek to theeast of Andersen Drive creates a new openspace amenity, alleviates local flooding, andprovides a new pedestrian-bike connectionbetween Downtown and the Canal

Pedestrian and bike connections to Downtownare enhanced along the Canal with newpromenades linking to the Mahon Creek Trail

In the long term, the Montecito Plaza ShoppingCenter is transformed into a new mixed-usecenter that is oriented to the Canal, with newpublic space, housing above retail shops,structured parking, and ecologicalimprovements that help adapt to sea-level
