Who are UKIM ?

UKIM is a leading provider of independent medical reports, used to assist in the resolutionof personal injuries.

We are a medical reporting agency who have been instructed by your solicitor to arrange an appointment and produce a report. We are completely independent of all parties involved andthis ensures you receive an unbiased and fair assessment.

The Independent Medical Expert

UKIM has a panel of independent experts, all of whom are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), are practicing doctors and have the skills and speciality relevant to your injuries. All experts have received training to ensure they have the required expertise and knowledge on medico-legal reporting.

You can bring a relative or friend to the appointment. If you are under 18 you must be accompanied by an adult.

Timings

UKIM will arrange an appointment for you to see an independent expert close to where you live. Sometimes it may be necessary to travel further depending on the availability of appointments in your area.

Consultations take around 20 minutes, however the more specialist the expert the longer the appointment length can be. During the appointment the expert may use their PC to make notes.

Please note that should you not arrive for your appointment UKIM will be notified and it will be at the discretion of your solicitor as to whether another one is booked. If you fail to attend this may result in a charge being incurred.

Please try to arrive in good time for your appointment. If you are delayed it may not be possible for the independent expert to see you that day and another booking may need to be made. This will result in a cancellation fee being incurred by your solicitor.

Your Appointment

The independent expert will first discuss with you their role and explain the purpose of the appointment and its confidential nature.

The independent expert will have received details from UKIM concerning your injuries. They will ask you about your incident, any treatment you may have received and the impact on your everyday lifestyle. The independent expert may ask to appropriately examine the relevant areas you have described, in some circumstances a physical examination is not required.

What To Bring

We ask that you take with you:

> Your appointment letter> Two forms of identification, one with a photograph. This identification can be your passport, birth certificate, driving license or a utility bill> You may also want to bring; details of any previous or on-going treatment or medication related to your injuries e.g. Physiotherapy> If you have any questions for the independent expert we recommend you write these down in advance> There may be cause for a physical examination to take place so please wear appropriate clothing

Your Medical Records

It may be necessary for the independent expert to review your medical records to consider what was written at the time of your injury and to assess if any past history might be relevant to your recovery. In this case we will send you a consent form in order to allow us to obtain a copy of the relevant records. Please note that without this consent form we may not be able to progress your case further so advise that this is returned to us at your earliest convenience.

Next Steps

Following the appointment a medical report will be sent to UKIM, normally within 14 working days (longer for a specialist independent expert). If the independent expert is required to review your medical records these will be sent to the expert in advance of the appointment.

Once we have received the report from the independent expert we will forward to your solicitor. Your Solicitor will send you a copy in due course.
