Happy Hour by definition is a period of time, usually late afternoon and early evening, dur-ing which a bar or lounge features drinks at reduced prices. At SSRE Moose Jaw we have revamped the definition of Happy Hour and host our own “Happy Hour” once a month in our lounge. We choose one friday every month where staff is encouraged to stay late, have a drink and bring lots of snacks...a potluck! We have birthday cake in celebration of anyone turning a year older that month, and play board games or just chat.

The importance of this “happy hour” is that it allows agents and staff members to interact on a different level than they do on a day to day basis. A step out of “professionalism” and into real life! It provides a chance to get to know everyone and what they do outside of the office. A friendly (cough...extremely competi-tive...cough) game of Catch Phrase is usually the highlight of happy hour, and those that do get into the game end up so involved they don’t realize what time it is until someone gets a call from home....”Mom, it’s 7:00 are you coming home for supper?”. Over the past few months this so called Happy Hour has made every-one in the office much closer, friendships are formed and overall a “Happy Hour” makes for a happy workplace!

In mid-April, Realtors® Mela-nie Loreth and Pamela Maas started with Signature Service rather suddenly, before of-fice space could be secured in Weyburn, so they worked from their vehicles (first SSRE Wey-burn office). When a new space was located, it was a very old space that had to be completely

renovated which meant I had to work from home (second SSRE Wey-burn office) for the month of May. Renovations moved along quickly and on June 1, we were in our fresh new office (third SSRE Weyburn office).

June 17 saw the first major flood hit Weyburn and area. Our office was almost spared, except for a waterfall in our front window caused by driving wind and rain. With our Grand Opening less than a month away, we scrambled to get the leak fixed and on July 11 we celebrated the Signature Service Real Estate Weyburn Grand Opening!

On October 1, Signature Service Real Estate helped sponsor the Wey-burn Youth Centre by donating two autographed SK Roughrider jerseys (thanks, Matt!) for their silent auction at their banquet. This yearly event is attended by around 500 people and raises money for the Weyburn Youth Centre, an important aspect for the youth community.

Six months in and we’ve made a name for ourselves. Our office front window is full of listings, our ‘solds’ are stacking up and the phones are ringing. Look out Weyburn . . . we’re just getting going!

Recently a very unique Real Estate opportunity has come our way at Lloydminster Signature Service Real Estate.

Imagine a trophy fishing Lake that has had no public access for over 15 years and then marvel at the fact that it is located at equal distant points between Edmonton and

Saskatoon and only 2 hours North of Canada’s only Border City.

We have been given the exclusive marketing rights for 33 lake front lots with phase 2 planned that will provide a future 30 more lots. It is extremely rare to discover a pristine lake with the recreational potential of this one. This exclusive opportunity will afford potential buyers the rare ability to build and to be part of an exclusive community on this untouched lake. The development is Rippling Waters Estates at Branch Lake. We were in competition with several other Real Estate offices, but the developers chose us because of our Agents, dedicated Staff, our Western Canadian Office network and a top notch marketing plan.

The Medicine Hat office is happy to announce that agent Vicky Scherer Pettrisch will be joining Noel Marchand in marriage on November 11, 2011.

We welcome Noel to the Signature Service Family and wish the happy couple many many wonderful years together.

Congratulations Vicky and Noel!

The Battleford’s have 1st hand knowledge of Herb Cox’s honesty and integrity through the numerous Real Estate transactions that he has facilitated as a Salesperson and Broker for over 37 years. As a Minor League Hockey Coach for 11 years, 3 terms as President of the Association of Battleford’s Realtors® or serving on several equine related Provincial Associations, Herb has always been a very strong advocate of supporting the area that supported him, and in saying so, has always been active and involved in his Community.Herb’s years of Community involvement, unbridled love and compassion for his fellow man, strong work ethics and dedication to honesty and integrity have recently paid off (not only for him), but for the Battlefords. Most recently Herb has distinguished himself by being elected MLA for The Battleford’s. He defeated NDP candidate and incumbent Len Taylor by 1053 votes earning him the prestigious position of becoming the voice of the people. It looks like real estate and politics can co-exist and indeed flourish. We sincerely wish Herb all the best in parliament and are extremely proud that the Battlefords will be represented by one of our own.

The Bus Stop Dilemma

You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see

three people waiting for the bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die. An old friend who once saved your life.

The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, know-ing that there could only be one passenger in your car?

Give your answer on our Facebook pages! Then check out next month’s WOW Magazine for the answer!

Coaldale and TaberMo Bros raise the bar and funds, plus a bit of change for the offices.

Once again, the leadership team of Signature Service held their quarterly meeting, and this time in Medicine Hat. Thank you to Glen, Terry, the staff and all of the wonderful agents of the Medicine Hat Office who opened their doors to us.

The meeting kicked-off on Thursday, where the team reviewed our 2012 budgets/ business plans and we all learned a valuable lesson to think outside the Box, all thanks to Terry Thom, who leads the financial charge for Signature Service Real Estate. Spending a day looking at charts and numbers can be taxing on the brain, so an evening of relaxation was called for – the group enjoyed a home cooked meal followed by a fire in the fireplace and some board games & Wii.

The following day was entirely dedicated to discussions regarding Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate conversion. We were able to Skype with Nelson Goulart, Managing Broker of BHGRE Signature Service in Mississauga, and Vice President of Network Services of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Canada. It’s amazing how easy it is to eliminate distance and have a relaxed conversation with the Master Franchise Guru! Needless to say, there’s lots of work ahead of us, but the path is becoming clearer, especially after this meeting.

A big announcement that will give each of you more clarity is that we have concluded that a transition before the Holidays will not be as effective as a super big launch and lots of media attention in January! Therefore, we have decided to move the launch of the Better Homes and Gardens Brand in Saskatchewan and Alberta to January. Sherry Chris, the President of BHGRE World-Wide, has promised to be here to support our local operations and make lots of noise about this launch on an international level. The actual date will be announced as soon as we have the corresponding details confirmed.

All in all, a very successful meeting, and we are certainly looking forward to the excitement as we move into the New Year.

I’d like to send a special thanks to those Broker/Managers who traveled from far to attend this meeting. Rita had a broken wrist and still drove the distance from Lloydminster to Medicine Hat, all by herself. Thank you Rita! And Matt – well, I will leave that one alone for now, but we’re happy you finally made it home! Heleen – It’s always good to see you!

Well it’s Movember! We have Blaine in the Taber office and John in the Coaldale office growing their moustaches for such a great cause, prostate cancer… I have a neighbour who died from this disease this year, we have heard so much about this horrible cancer a lot these last few years, I am very proud of both of these men coming forward and willing to challenge all of us to participate and think… From what I hear as much as we are a family there is competition between both offices! Let’s see who will win!

In October, Kim and I traded offices for some cross training and I have to say it was very interesting. A lot was learned and new challenges had by all. It was great to get to know everyone out of the Taber office and have the opportunity to assist all of them as much as possible. Heleen took a well-deserved holiday to go back home to Holland for 10 days and hopefully enjoyed some “stress-free” time!! I have to say that I have a new outlook on how hard the Taber team works and the amount of time & effort it takes to make all of this work!

In June of this year, Google launched the Beta version of its new Google+ (Google Plus) Social Media Platform. It came out of Beta and opened to the public on September 20, 2011. I could spend hours debating that in the details, objective and execution Google+ is vastly different than Facebook, but the fact is, they are both successful social media platforms that offer you the chance to not only talk to your clients and potential new clients, but to talk with them.

Google+ opened up their Pages for brands this week. Once again using Facebook as a comparison, much like Facebook Professional Pages, Google+ Pages are designed for you to represent yourself as a brand.

This is the part where I would normally go crazy with instructions on how to implement your very own Google+ Page, but not this time. I want you to be aware that, although Google+ itself is a rapidly maturing product, the Google+ Pages are very much in their infancy and will not yet offer you many of the administrative and analytic resources that you may have come to love of your Facebook page. My advice at this stage is to go ahead and get yourself setup with a Google+ account (https://plus.google.com) and sample it’s wares for a bit. I hope that you find, as I have, that you very much enjoy the platform. But just in case, I don’t want you to invest too much time into it if you find that it is not the appropriate place for you and your business.

One of the greatest benefits to creating a Google+ Page is the effect it will have on your ranking on the Google Search results. Many brands are already, after only 24 hours, seeing their websites move up, and even jump to first place, in the results. Try a search for “+Pepsi” and you’ll see that, if you have the auto-complete turned on (as most do), you will need only type ”+P” to be presented with Pepsi’s Google+ Page.

If you are brave enough to just dive in to create your own page (And you already have a personal account) go to: https://plus.google.com/u/0/pages/create
