green-collar worker is a worker who is employed in the environmental sectors of the economy. Environmental green-

collar workers (or Green Jobs) satisfy the demand for green development. Generally, they implement environmentally

conscious design, policy, and technology to improve conservation and sustainability.

Green Jobs will:

Create 2 million new jobs nationwide over two years

Reduce the unemployment rate

Bolster employment especially in construction and manufacturing

Provide opportunities to rebuild career ladders through training, retraining and workforce development

Help lower oil prices

Contribute to the reconstruction of local communities and public infrastructure all across America, setting us on a course for a long-term transition to a low-carbon economy that increases our energy independence and helps fight global warming.

• The shift away from convention energy production to avoid emission of green house gases will cause a transformation of existing jobs to clean energy related jobs

• Existing Jobs will require additional training of “green skills”

• A large number of green jobs will require a professional certificate or postsecondary education. (a highly qualified green workforce)

• With new technologies, innovations and inventions on the horizon, many green jobs do not exist yet and will need to be created to meet societal needs

• Corporate and labor unions retraining programs

• Increased global population, a decrease of available resources and climate change
