Warm Up: String ProblemSituation:

You have two flammable strings with really cool properties.

1.When lit on fire, each string will burn for exactly 1 hour.

2.The rate of burning is NOT constant – different parts of each string burn at different rates AND each string will burn at an independent rate from the other.

How Do Our Brains Work?

Neurons are the cells that make up your brain – the branches coming off the cell are called dendrites.

Page 15: What would you say if I told you the truth?. You really CAN learn anything you want to!

Dendrites and axons create connections with other neurons.

Page 16: What would you say if I told you the truth?. You really CAN learn anything you want to!

When we learn something new, two amazing things happen …1. We actually grow MORE AND

BIGGER dendrites on our neurons.

2. We use these new dendrites to create NEW CONNECTIONS with

other neurons.

… AND the harder you WORK to learn something new, the more…

Dendrites you will grow

Connections you will make

AND
