Welcome The Passport Scheme offers fishing for wild brown trout, sea trout, salmon, gray-ling and coarse fish in unrivalled surroundings. There are 38 beats available as Token Fisheries and also the extensive Dartmoor Fishery on the East and West Dart and tributaries. In addition, Westcountry Angling Passport tokens can be used at all of the South West Lakes Trust Fisheries and also on most of the other Passport Schemes around the UK.

Tokens are bought in books of 10 valued at £2.50 per token with Token Fishery beats ranging from 2 to 6 tokens per angler per day. The Dartmoor Fishery oper-ates on a day, week or season ticket basis starting at £10 for a day’s brown-trouting; tokens can be used as payment or part payment to purchase Dartmoor tickets. As in previous years, tokens can be bought online or through our token outlets. Dartmoor Fishery tickets are available through the network of Dartmoor outlets; please refer to the website or printed Fishery Guide for full details.

There are a few changes from last year; we no longer offer the facility to book beats online, and we are not producing a paper brochure - however all the beat information can be found on the Passport website where it can be downloaded to your smartphone or printed out. The Westcountry Angling Passport offers a huge wide of opportunities to go fishing on a flexible basis at very reasonable prices that we really hope you enjoy. Please check out the website and let us know what you think and tight lines for 2015!

ST 015046 ‐ ST 008033  1900m of double bank, accessed from left hand bank. Access *** Fishability ****

Description: This is a nice section of open river reminiscent of the Windrush. It provides good brown trout fishing during the spring and summer and usually produces fish to over 1lb. There are also chub, dace, roach and pike with the best of the coarse fishing in the sum-mer and autumn with dace to 1lb, chub to 4lb and roach to over 2lb. The river is relatively easy to fish with a lovely pool - riffle - glide sequence. Some large brown trout were caught early season last year but the fishery had to close as the road bridge mid-beat was rebuilt. It will be good to get this beat open again in 2015. Please be aware that it is located adjacent to the M5 motorway and main rail line so can be a bit noisy during times of heavy traffic.

Info & Restrictions: Any method. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be re-tained per day. All other fish to be returned. Please undertake catch and release to best practice guide-lines. Sorry, no dogs.

Directions & Access: Turn off the M5 at Junction 28 and take the B3181 through Cullompton. As you leave the town, take the second exit at the roundabout signed ‘Bradninch’. As you enter Bradninch turn left into Parsonage Street. After 0.8 miles you pass an entrance on the right signed ‘Halthaies’. The parking area is shortly after this turn on the area of hard standing forming the entrance to two fields. To ac-cess the beat walk down the road and over the bridge where gates on either side provide access up and downstream. The token box is on the inside of the right hand post of the upstream gate.

The beat is easily accessible from South Molton and Barnstaple, and comprises a number of pools and glides interspersed by riffled sections. It has a good head of brown trout up to 16 inches and provides the chance of salm-on and sea trout given adequate water. 4 Tokens Salmon and Trout 15 March - 30 Sept SS 725226 ‐ SS 7232230 800m single bank. Access *** Fishability ****

Description: The Mole is perhaps the most productive tributary of the river Taw system. It comprises four main pools with a mix of glides and riffles offering a variety of water. The larger pools are likely to offer the chance of a salmon or day time sea trout following a spate. In times of lower water it should provide good brown trout fishing. Lightly fished in the low water of 2014, it still produced good bags of brownies to 11”.

Info & Restrictions: Fly only, single barbless hooks to be used at all times when fishing catch and release. All trout under 8” must be returned. 1 brown trout of over 8” or 1 sea trout of over 10” may be retained per day. 1 salmon may be retained per day subject to national and local byelaws. Sorry, no dogs. Self-catering accommodation and camping is available on site –email [email protected], Tel: 01769 550636.

Directions & Access: From South Molton, take the B3137 south towards Witheridge. When in Alswear take the road off the A3137 sign post-ed George Nympton/ King’s Nympton. Contin-ue along this road for 450m, crossing over the river, you will find Garramarsh Farm on the right. Proceed up the drive; the parking area is not far along on the right. A path is located to the right of the parking area that leads to a stile that provides access to the river. The low-er part of the beat is accessed through the five bar gate a little way down the hill from the entrance into Garramarsh Farm. The token box is the post on the left hand side of the path just before the stile at the entrance to the beat.

4 Tokens Salmon 1 Mar – 30 Sept, Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept SS 699136 ‐ SS 708136  1200m left hand single bank. Access ** Fishability ***

Description: This is a secluded stretch of river with a nice mix of riffles, runs and some lovely big pools. Trout fishing with a chance of a sea trout or possibly a salmon given good water. Usually lightly fished, possibly due to the walk to access the water, this beat remains produc-tive to the few anglers who fish it regularly, often producing a decent stamp of brown trout. Last year it was hardly fished although it still produced 23 brownies to 13”.

Info & Restrictions: Spinning for salmon allowed before 1 April thereafter fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. No more than 1 salmon, 2 sea trout to be retained per day. Sorry, no dogs.

Directions & Access: On the A377 at Eggesford Station take the B3042 east to Chawleigh. Bear left at Hollow Tree Cross on to the B3096. 50 yards along on the right you will see double gates with a sign saying Blue Fox Glade, Target Sports, etc. Open and go through the gates clos-ing them behind you. Either park inside the gates being sure not to block the track or pro-ceed 250m down the track and park adjacent to the log piles on the right; the token box is by the log piles next to a willow. Proceed down the track to the beat on foot.

4 Tokens Salmon 1 Mar – 30 Sept, Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept

SS 691136 ‐ SS 697136 (Li le Dart)   600m of right hand single bank on the L.Dart and  SS696135 ‐ SS 698142 (Huntaco )    800m mixed single and double bank on the Huntacott Stream. Access ** Fishability ***

Description: Predominantly brown trout fishing with the best sport often being in April, May and June. Falling water following a spate in August and September could provide the chance of a sea trout or possibly a salmon. Long sections of bedrock in the L. Dart although several good glides and undercut ledges. The Huntacott St. has a number of good pools which tend to hold the larger trout. Although it wasn’t fished much in the low water experienced in 2014, some decent bags of brownies were recorded in the earlier part of the season.

Info & Restrictions: Fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than one trout to be retained per day. Please return all salmon and sea trout. Sorry, no dogs. Very comfortable self-catering barn conversions are available at Park Mill Farm Tel: 01769 580068 or email: [email protected]

Directions & Access: The beat is situated just to the south east of Chulmleigh - drive out of the village (on the B3096 south towards Chawleigh) and at the Old Rectory bear left. Drive past the park and follow the road around to the right, down the steep hill and turn into a gateway on your right hand side before the bridge. The box is situated by the parking area. 6 Tokens Salmon 1 Mar – 30 Sept, Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept

SS 479197 476202  800m double bank fished from the right hand bank. Access ** Fishability ***

Description: This beat is located downstream from Great Torrington, below Rothern Bridge and comprises a sequence of decent sized pools and deep glides. For trout a single handed 9’ rod with floating line should be sufficient. For salmon and sea trout fishing a 10’ single handed rod will cover most situations. Anglers are gradually starting to cotton on to the beat; in 2014 it was fished a little more actively and produced 5 sea trout to 4lb and a good number of larger brown trout to 13”.

Voluntary catch and release of all species strongly encouraged. Sorry, no dogs.

Directions & Access: From Great Torrington, take the A386 west to Bideford. Less than 1km out of Great Torrington turn right sign posted Tarka Trail. Description: The River Torridge is well known for its salmon and sea trout fishing and also offers good brown trout fishing. The beat was lightly fished last year, its first in the scheme, but already has a few regular anglers; it is relatively easy to access and seems to have a good head of larger brown trout; a fish estimated at 2lb was caught and returned in 2014. The Okement stems from the northern fringe of Dartmoor and this section is deeply incised into the valley with tumbling rapids, deep undercut pools and slate bedrock glides; there are seven named pools and some nice runs. Although not the easiest to fish it is seriously underused and offers good brown trout fishing with the chance of a sea trout or salmon given sustained good water. The banks are steep and woody places and much of the river bed is rock or slate so please take great care when wading.

3 Tokens Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept SS 403121 - SS 410113 1700m of double and single bank. Access *** Fishability ***

Description: This is a lovely and extensive trout beat with good stocks of larger fish. This part of the Torridge has an excellent mayfly hatch in early June although it is fairly heavily shaded in places so fishing from within the river and casting under the trees is essential to cover this beat effectively. It has fished consistently well over the years and is a popular beat with Pass-port regulars but should really be fished more often! Several bags of 10+ fish recorded in 2014 with a largest of 16”. Known by many as a good dry fly beat.

Info & Restrictions: Fly only. All trout under 8” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. Dogs allowed under close control.

Directions & Access: From Holsworthy take the A388 to Stab Cross. Cross over the River Weldon and proceed through Milton Demerol. 5 Tokens Brown Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept SX 694879 – SX804883 12km of mixed double and single bank. Access **** Fishability ****

Description: This is an extensive fishery comprising a fantastic and very long stretch of brown trout water located in the Dartmoor National Park. It fished well in 2014 producing 130 brown trout to 13.5”. Due to the depth of the valley and its upland aspect it can take a while to get going in spring. It comprises a good mix of pools, glides and riffles and, although good nymph water, the dry fly is king once things get going. The area around Fingle Inn and other access areas can get very busy with walkers and their dogs. As such it is often neces-sary to walk to locations away from the main tourist activity.

Info & Restrictions: Brown trout, catch and release fly fishing only. Barbless hooks recom-mended. All salmon and sea trout to be returned. Fishing is permitted between sunrise and sunset each day. This is an Upper Teign Angling Association beat; please refer to their web-site: www.upper-teign-fishing.org.uk

5 Tokens Brown Trout 15 Mar - 30 Sept

SX 726482 714472 2km mixed single and double bank. Access **** Fishability ****

Description: This is a lovely beat which consists of wide open stretches and more enclosed tree lined banks. As described by A.G. Bradley in 1914, ‘The Avon is no brook, nor again is it a broad river, but of precisely the right dimensions in my opinion for a first-rate trouting stream’. We would fully agree, and so do the anglers who fish it. It has plenty of water for several an-glers to enjoy a day’s fishing using upstream dry fly, wet fly or nymphing tactics, the beat has two named pools, ‘Pembertons’ and ‘Bramble’, as well as a long section of deep glide called the ‘Flats’. Wading is generally easy over gravel and cobble substrate and has now become a real favourite with Passport anglers. In 2014 it produced over 100 brown trout to 15”, to be honest, that’s probably only scratching the surface!

Info & Restrictions: Fly only. Catch and re-lease. Anglers may fish until 1hr after sunset. Sorry, no dogs. Refreshments and B & B accommodation is available adjacent to the beat at the Avon Mill Garden Centre, tel. 01548 550338, http://www.avonmill.com.

Directions & Access: From Loddiswell, take the B3196 signed to Kingsbridge. Drop down the hill and cross over the River Avon at New Bridge. Take the first left and follow the road around to Newmill Bridge. There is a small pull in to the right hand side of the entrance down to the bridge. Park here and access the beat up and downstream via the adjoining gates. The token box is on the river side of the telegraph pole by the parking pull in.

2 Tokens Trout 1 April – 30 September

SW 873470 - SW 86946 600m of right hand single bank. Access *** Fishability ** Be aware of overhead power lines.

Description: This beat is just above the tide and has a good head of brown trout and usually a run of sea trout from late April. Try a 7-8ft 3-5wt fly rods and fish in the gloaming for sea trout. They can be caught on nymph by day but worm and Mepps (size 2) are often the most effective method, particularly after a summer spate (even better if coinciding with spring tides). The section above the weir and the pool below are generally the most productive. It is becoming a little more popular with fly fishers looking for browns but is generally very lightly fished. In 2014 it produced 104 brown trout to 11”.

Info & Restrictions: Fly, spinner and worm. All trout under 7” must be returned, no more than 2 trout or 2 sea trout to be retained per day.

Directions & Access: From St Austell take the A390 to Truro. Pass through Grampound and at the next roundabout take the first left to Truro. Continue for 3 miles and cross over the Tresillian River and take the first right and continue for approx.0.3 miles. With the cemetery on your left enter through the gateway on the right (with ornamental metal gates you will have to open and close behind you). Proceed along the track and park up by the box on the left hand side. Walk down to the river through the rush pasture or along the path leading upstream.

Westcountry Rivers Trust is delighted to continue in partnership with the South West Lakes Trust to offer the roving angler an unsurpassed selection of stillwater trout and coarse fisher-ies which can be accessed with your Westcountry Angling Passport Tokens. Whether you enjoy trout or coarse fishing, are a novice or seasoned angler, prefer stocked or wild fisher-ies, these lakes provide fantastic sport in some of the Westcountry’s most beautiful sur-roundings. Passport Tokens can be redeemed against a day’s fishing at any of the South West Lakes Trust’s trout or coarse fisheries. These include Argal, Upper and Lower Tamar, Porth and 10 other lakes for coarse fishing and Kennick, Wimbleball, Siblyback, Stithians, Colliford, Roadford and Fernworthy and 7 other lakes for trout. This season Drift in west Cornwall is also included. The trout fisheries combine both rainbow trout and ‘wild’ fisheries which are only occasionally stocked, often with just brownies, providing outstanding sport for natural-ised fish. For those seeking this wilder experience we recommend fishing Roadford, Colliford or Fernworthy. All you need here is a 9ft 6wt rod and reel with a floating line, a box of flies, net and off you go. Much of the fishing will occur in the margins so when walking the banks keep back from the water edge so you don’t spook fish feeding close in.

Day tickets and boats may be booked using SWLT on-line booking system. For more infor-mation, including 2014 ticket prices, see the Trust’s website (www.swlakestrust.org.uk), or telephone the Trust’s Head office (01566 771930) or contact your nearest water.

* Please note: Westcountry Angling Passport tokens are worth £2.50 each and, in most cas-es, you will also have to use cash or cheque to make up the correct value of your day permit at SWLT fisheries. Tokens cannot be exchanged for cash.

5 Tokens Trout 15 March - 30 Sept, Salmon 1 April – 15 December SX 602566 603575 1km double bank Access *** Fishability ***

Please note that certain days of the season will not be available on this beat. These days will be few but are subject to change at short notice. In order to avoid disappointment always check online to ensure the beat is available before visiting the beat. When the beat is closed, a sign will also be fixed to the token box informing you that you are not allowed to fish.

Description: Approximately 1km of double bank fishing on the River Yealm near Ivybridge. This is a lovely beat which combines two distinct sections of water. The upper section dis-plays typical moorland river features with a mix of runs and pools suiting dry fly/nymph fish-ing. The lower section is more open and has 5 holding pools which provide good brown trout and, with the right water, excellent sea trout fishing. The Yealm is also a late run salmon river and there is a chance of a fish, given the right water conditions. The beat suffered last year in the very hot and dry conditions but still produced over 50 brown trout, 7 sea trout and two salmon.

Info & Restrictions: Fly only. Catch & Release for salmon & brown trout, 2 sea trout, over 12”, may be retained per day. Please use barbless or de-barbed hooks. Sorry, no dogs.

Directions & Access: From Plymouth, leave the A38 at Lee Mill slip road and follow the road into Lee Mill; at the Westward Inn pub turn left on to New Park Road. From Exeter, leave the A38 at Lee Mill slip road, follow the road into Lee Mill and turn right at the Westward Inn on to New Park Road. Follow New Park Road for 0.5 mile then take right turn signed Venton (narrow lane). Follow the lane for 1.5 mile. Look for a Hump Back Bridge sign on the left, 50 yards after the sign turn right up a narrow bumpy track leading to a house called Bryony, park by the double gar-age, on the left hand side. The token box is on the fence next to the garage. The river runs down the far left hand side of the field in front of you. To access the upper section please walk back down the track and along to access points indicat-ed on the map.
